Virtual Desktops for windows

Sorry to break the somber tone of the Lounge after the recent tragedy, but I've got to focus on something other than my anger and frustration at Evil in the world. Anybody know of any windows utility that manages virtual desktops like in linux? Josh josh@that-guy.net

I have no idea how Linux does it, but there's a replacement shell called LiteStep that lets you have 4 virtual desktops. And if you're stuck in the stone ages with Win 95 and the original 4.0 shell, there's always Norton Navigator. ;) --Mike-- http://home.inreach.com/mdunn/ Ford: How would you react if I said that I'm not from Guildford after all, but from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelguese? Arthur: I don't know. Why, do you think it's the sort of thing you're likely to say?

I am not sure what a Linux virtual desktop is, but I am using Perfect Screens from http://www.pitrinec.com/psindex.htm. It works great, and I highly recommend it. /Mike

VWM's in Windows sometimes 'lose' windows and they are very hard to retrieve. Does the window manager in Linux do this too? "das leid schlaft in der maschine" -Einstürzende Neubauten

Yes, I've experienced lost desktops with windows. Quite a pain. Linux doesn't seem to have this problem from what I've seen. I love the feature though. It helps me organize my various projects. Josh josh@that-guy.net

I had tried using MultiDesk but ran into some problems when running in conjunction with Visual C++. If I was building a project and switched desktops, the program I was building would come up on the second desktop. If the program then hit a breakpoint the desktop would freeze since VS and my app were on different desktops. Anyways, I found a very good program called Vern. It handles as many desktops as you want, allows you to drag apps between desktops, and has many options. Josh josh@that-guy.net
