So in other words God is your personal army ? Why does He care only for innocent American souls ? Since Paul didn't answer this for himself, maybe I can take a stab. Sure, some people will think like that, but the majority of Americans are thinking more along the lines of, "God is in the business of protecting people from evil, so he must be on our side in this case." Had the terrorists been from the US and bombed uninvolved people somewhere else, many Americans would still be saying the same type of thing. I think then that Paul wasn't claiming God as "on America's side", but on the side of right, which is where America happens to be right now. (At least I hope that's what he was saying.) John
Well, as a Christian I can see how it is comforting to know God is with you when times are difficult or uncertain. My point is that these are the things that divide, and the people who allegedly are behind this are urging a lot of other nations to join in a war divided on religious lines. Why help them ? > A follower of Islam offered to explain his views to me and backed out when he found out I was a Christian, thus re-enforcing my view. I don't know whom you dealt with, but certainly backing away from your curiosity of Islam wasn't the right thing to do on his part. I am not very well-versed about Koran (having too much fun with the C++ stuff I do), but I know Koran strongly encourages to let others know about the truth and beauty of Islam. Certainly Muslims aren't very proactive on this end and guess what, the terrorist have filled in this vacuum. // Fazlul

I must say I was pretty amazed. IT came about because someone put up a project that allowed people to read the Quran on PC, with no source code, and no real article. This person wrongly thought I was saying the article had no value because of it's contents ( it was the lack of content relevant to CP, I could care less that the Quran was the focus of the program itself ). Anyhow, he offered to explain Islam to me, I said I was unlikely to be convinced but willing to listen. Previously I've read some of the Quran myself in English andthought it a violent religion but accept that my reading was cursory and not enough for me to really judge, so I was proceeding out of real interest to know more, regardless of my lack of interest in conversion. He refused to discuss anything until he had my background. I sent a reply along the lines of 'I don't know why you're insisting on this, the message of my God is the same to anyone regardless of their beliefs or background, but I'm 32, married with 2 children and I've been a Christian for 11 years'. I sent several followup email after that one and he never replied to me again. I take it you mean that people are generally as ignorant of the Muslim religion because they do not share it, and now people are making false assumptions based on the terrorists actions ? Ok. It is true that everyone can see this is an obvious crime, and traditional religious beliefs aren't required to figure that out. I do have a hard time saying that religion should be separate though, since America's system of justice was founded upon Bible principles. Besides, most people who see that some religion is going the same direction they want to go aren't going to be upset about it. They'll probably be a little pleased. Also, the people who would end up hating us for it already hate us, don't they? John
You're absolutely right that America's justice system was founded on Biblical principles, although I hope you don't think America has continued on that path. Also, the people who would end up hating us for it already hate us, don't they? This is my problem. Not all non-Christians hate America, many live there and/or do not support the actions of these terrorists. I'm not just talking about division between nations, but division in YOUR nation. I read Jerry Falwell said nationally that this happened because America has lost her faith. These sorts of statements, making this an issue of who is going to live forever and who is a Godless heathen does NOT help the cause of justice. Christian As I learn the innermost secrets of the around me, they reward me in many ways to keep quiet. Men with pierced ears are better prepared for marriage. Yeah, that Jerry Falwell thing certainly went farther than it should have, and has caused at least some temporary division here. What amazes me, though, is that it was part of a long discussion on some Christian broadcast, but the media only ever quoted that controversial part. Sort of makes me wonder if Falwell really said or did anything he shouldn't have. (I didn't see the broadcast.) At the same time, one lone member of Congress (Barbara Lee) had voted against using force against the terrorists and she wasn't getting any press recognition at all. It just makes me wonder what the media is up to. *shrugs* John

The media is whipping things up, looking to sell as many papers as possible. At least that is what they are doing here. The report on the Falwell broadcast said even his sponsors distanced themselves immediately from his statements.
