Obviously, the bold red text is of little use. :sigh: Any suggestions as to how we can further reduce the number of programming questions? I have one - before a new thread is addded to the forum, check if it has { and }. If it does, tell the poster it looks like a programming question, and ask him if it is. If he says Yes, redirect him to the message boards. If not, continue with the posting operation. Checking for braces might not spot all programming questions, but it will certainly spot a fair chunk of them. :~ I don't want someone with a twisted sense of loyalty flaming me for this, so let me say Chris is doing a great job, I'm merely asking for suggestions as to how it can be improved. :) Cheers, Vikram.

we just bribe shog to upgrade his script so that all threads that look like programming questions are wrapped in strike through tags. this way you can ignore these threads when scanning down the board looking for things to read :-D zen is the art of being at one with the two'ness

Scanning text for the presence of { and } shouldn't be too difficult. ;) Cheers, Vikram.

-Why bother sifting questions? People have fun bugging people who put programming questions in the lounge. -Pop-up windows would be very annoying for regular posters.

Given that humans are involved, there is nothing that can be done to minimize the frequency. Think about how many rules/laws exist today that go unenforced. What's alarming is the number of responses such a post gets. Vikram A Punathambekar wrote: I have one - before a new thread is addded to the forum, check if it has { and }. No, programming questions in the Lounge don't leave me depressed. :) I only think "Oh oh, here comes a barrage of bullets" and quickly tell the tyro he's in the wrong forum politely. However, I completely understand that he's done something stupid, and also completely understand why others might get pi$$ed. It's just that I simply choose not to flame him. DavidCrow wrote: What's alarming is the number of responses such a post gets. :-D Cheers, Vikram.

Make a public example out of the next one to do it. Torture, wierd stuff. Dvorak keyboards, TI-Basic, thumb screws. Make them scream. ....or just start removing access to the Lounge for accounts that do that too often.

I'd have voted for it 3 or 4 times if Bob would have let me.
