Dear reader, What do you think of the future for .Net? Which language will prevail the other language? Why people still choose to use Java? Which language will a new programmer choose? Did Microsoft setup education centres in universities and colleges? leonwoo

Check out the .NET forum threads. We had several interesting discussions on this very topic. I don't think people would want to say all that stuff again.... Nish Sonork ID 100.9786 voidmain

leonwoo wrote: Why people still choose to use Java? For applications that truly need cross platform compatibility. Remember until the .NET Framework is "ported" to other platforms .NET applications won't run on anything but Windows. Also there are a lot of people who like Java and are "good at" Java. They won't easily change to any other language, never mind a Microsoft language. leonwoo wrote: Which language will a new programmer choose? As always this depends on the career path the developer wishes to pursue or the needs of the job market. If they are into heavy duty, low level, intensive app's then they will still probably choose C++. Most new developers though will probably choose C# or VB.NET. Both are powerful enough for most applications yet easy to learn. leonwoo wrote: What do you think of the future for .Net? Which language will prevail the other language? Java is not going away anytime soon. Far too many people have invested a lot of time and effort into it. Whole companies rely on it. .NET is unproven and still in BETA. I think there is room in the IT industry for many languages, we are not going to change our ways and all start programming in one Framework or language. Saying all that I like .NET and am investing time into it and C# especially. I think it has a very good future for the sole reason that Microsoft is basically betting the bank on .NET, unlike Sun who are semi-pushing Sun ONE.
