ASP.NET book recommendation
-
After a zillion years of non-web-related software development, I have decided to overcome infinite inertia and learn something about ASP.NET. What books would you recommend for a beginner to ASP.NET who is thoroughly familiar with software development and adequately familiar with C#? I'm not looking for the world's most complete and scholarly ASP.NET book, but something that will ease my entry into the dark side :^). Sadly, I have no job-driven needs to learn this, but as time goes by I feel like I know more and more about less and less. Thanks.

Microsoft ASP.NET Programming with Microsoft Visual C# .NET Step by Step Ooooh, "step by step". I like that. That way it is easier for me to take two steps forward and one step backward :~ (or is it the other way around?). Thanks.

In the more basic, beginner category, I'd recommend: Programming ASP.NET by Jesse Liberty ASP.NET Unleashed And then, once you're looking for something more, I give wholehearted approval to: Essential ASP.NET with Examples in C# Hope that helps.

Thanks to everyone who replied and for your good suggestions. I think it is mildly amusing, or at least confusing, that some of the books people here cited as best-loved on this subject were panned as worst-of-class in reader reviews in amazon.com, and thos books with the highest reader ratings on the subject on amazon.com were mostly not mentioned here. In general, I avoid buying books rated poorly on amazon.com, but that isn't a sure bet. I'm sure the truth is that for any given excellent book, there are some people who hate it, and for any given horrible book, there are some people who love it. I also know for a fact that some of the glowing book ratings on amazon.com are posted by the books' authors or their associates. So caveat emptor. Thanks again.
