Apple could make a real dent in the OS market if they would stop being narrow mainded. The tigress is here :-D

It sounds like Steve Jobs' infamous "personal reality distortion field" has once again deformed the space-time continuum at Apple headquarters, rendering the world in this lovely pink hue. Even a diehard Microsoft assimilatee such as myself thinks it would be rather cool to have a second commercial-quality choice other than Linux.

I have seen some rumours that this is all part of Steve Jobs plan to get OSX on vanilla hardware. He has to "try" the Mac hardware only option so he can turn around and say "I tried" before he releases OSX for general release. I've always thought Apple should become a software company (excluding the iPod) and focus on what they do best.

Exactly. MacOS is a much better suited OS for the Desktop users than Linux. Linux will never ever hurt MS on the consumer level, but having MacOs accessible for PCs would really change the game. I'm convinces Apple would make more money and gain market shares much faster if they released the OS for PCs.

Yes indeed. There was a time when one could use MFC to write apps for the Mac. In fact, a high degree of portability was claimed if one did things right. If that could be achieved today it might be very cool.

I agree, there is a need in the market for a friendly (non MS) OS on Joe-user's desktop. Regardz Colin J Davies The most LinkedIn CPian (that I know of anyhow) :-)

Thanks but I was speaking specifically of MFC compatibility. Although, considering the nature of my work, this is probably of very little value.
