I'm sick of the animated flash ads and am trying to block them. I tried a few different methods but found the most effective thus far was to look in my Temporary Internet Files (I'm using I.E.) for Shockwave type files and noting the Internet Address. I then go to my router and block each site. This is working very well with the basic Yahoo! sites, but some still get through. They don't even show up as Temporary Internet Files. Namely the Nationwide and Miller Beer ads. I wish you could right-click on a flash ad to see its properties, but you can't. An ideas on blocking flash ads more effectively? Barry Etter

You can find out where the Flash file resides if you click on "View -> Source" and search for ".swf" in the code. I'm not sure if this is what you meant by properties. Firefox + AdBlock Plus. I should also mention that, using Firefox, you can right click on a page, go to "View Page Info", click on the media tab, and it will show you a list of all the images, icons, and swf files on the page. Very handy.

Isn't that going a bit too far? Javascript is ubiquitous; using a whitelist to control it seems overkill, IMO. I would hate to have to manually enable it for each site I want to visit, what a pain!

I control what scripts need to run. I agree with you that it's pain to add sites manually, but after week or so (when you add all legit sites to the white list), the browsing experience is much relaxed.
