I just received an e-mail with the details of Microsoft's upcoming Launch Tour in Canada that's going to show off the new Visual Studio, SQL Server, blah, blah, blah. Personally, I think it's going to be as exciting as watching bread dough rise,, BUT... I seem to remember an earlier e-mail from Microsoft Canada that said something about giving away free copies of Visual Studio 2005 to participants. Does anyone know if this was just wishful dreaming on my part, or if it's really true? If so, I think putting up with an afternoon of marketing hype is well worth the reward. :-D -- modified at 18:31 Thursday 22nd September, 2005

I cannot promise anything but it's not unusual for them to do that at all. If I can get anywhere near one I'll be going for exactly that reason.

Ah yes, that makes sense. As I recall, the e-mail didn't mention that it would be the Evaluation Edition, but I didn't really think they'd give a full edition away for free, unless maybe it was the Express Edition. That's too bad. :(

That's the thing about these events. MS cannot give it away at *every* event. But my brother and I got free copies of 2003 at the last launch. We also got Office 2003 the same way. You never know, you just have to go and that's how Microsoft makes the events draw the crowds. Wish I had the revenue to just give myself away...:^) Alas, I don't. I've had to take liens against myself as myself is presently overdrawn...
