I'm only seeing one bigot in this thread and that wouldn't change if lauren chose to post a reply here. Steve T

Ummm... no? Perhaps a better question you should ask yourself is: "Why am I obsessed with Lauren?" Seriously - think about it. The nature of your post isn't just to vent a frustration - it is specifically to solicit other people to express ill-will toward an individual. It's not enough for you to feel negatively toward Lauren - you want other people to feel negatively about her too. Why? Even if you had a beef with someone, why would you want to solicit others to share in your negative experience? What good does that do for you? I'm not surprised by the response you've gotten. I think many would read your post and wonder more "What's this guy's problem?" rather than "Wow, that person he attacked is really a bigot."

I never said she can't have an opinion different than mine. Not that she needs my permission, but she can have and hold whatever opinions she wants to. But, if she, or anyone else for that matter, chooses to espouse those opinions, then it is incumbent upon that opinion holder/espouser to be able defend such opinions with thoughful, reasoned arguments. When opinions are made such that an entire class of people are denigrated, then that is not just an opinion, it becomes a stereotype. If someone were to say "green people are lazy" that certainly is an opionion, but it also makes that person a bigot when they hold to an opinion that is so easily disproved. So it is with lauren, she holds that religion causes bad stuff and posts a link of dubious quality to support such a dubious "opinion." When it is pointed out that the article she posted linked to is of poor quality she goes on the offensive and rather than apologize she attacks the individual.

Go find a definition of "bigot". An opinion, by it's very nature, cannot be proven or disproven in any sense of either term. An opinion is how someone feels about something, and may or may not be based on fact, experience, idea, intellect, or any other method by which they arrived at said opinion. A bigot is not simply someone that has an opinion which is wildly different from your own. I swear, the number of users that are registered here has significantly reduced the average IQ of the group as a whole. You're a bigger fuckin moron that I initially assumed and are probably a big contributer to the IQ drain... Lauren is much loved here, and anyone attacking her like this is going to call down the wrath of most of the other frequent users. Final point, dipshit - her post was in the soapbox, and you posting this crap in the lounge qualifies as stepping solidly on your dick. ------- sig starts "I've heard some drivers saying, 'We're going too fast here...'. If you're not here to race, go the hell home - don't come here and grumble about going too fast. Why don't you tie a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won't climb up and eat your candy ass..." - Dale Earnhardt "...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001

I don't agree that it's just her opinion. Name-calling is not an opinion. It's bigotry. And calling someone a bigot is not name calling. It's factual.

Not necessarily. As a Transsexual Christian I know more about bigotry and intolerance in religion than many people, and what I saw was ill thought out opinionated remarks. Not bigotry by a long way. You both should also have posted in the Soapbox. This isn't the place. :rose: Anna :rose: Riverblade Ltd - Software Consultancy Services Anna's Place | Tears and Laughter "Be yourself - not what others think you should be" - Marcia Graesch "Anna's just a sexy-looking lesbian tart" - A friend, trying to wind me up. It didn't work.

since i hang out in the lounge for light relief, to get away from the stresses of the day, and to chat with the few people here i have started to get to know i tend to ignore the "heavy" threads. as a result i don't have any direct dealings with Lauren, but she does seem capable of holding a reasoned opinion and partaking in an intelligent debate. i am not sure how often that happens, but i have seen it happen. in contrast your post lowers you in my eyes, thus raising the relative level of Lauren, and everyone else in the lounge i pay attention to. it just goes to show, the world can be a strange and mysterious place. zen is the art of being at one with the two'ness

I think you're fooling yourself with this statement. I don't mean that as an insult to you; rather, I think you have an opportunity here, should you choose to take it, to take a step back from this and seriously ask the question "Why did I feel it necessary to solicit negative feelings about this individual?". If you try to kid yourself by suggesting things like "I wanted someone to defend her" then you've talked yourself right out of that opportunity. You didn't want someone to defend her. You wanted other people to express the same negative feelings about her that you expressed. Seriously, take a good hard look at yourself over this, and I think you'll be the happier for it.
