Hi What kind of working conditions/cubicles,etc... do you guys have? Window office, console office, cubicle...floor? I'm :| in an open plan area with aboot (SP-ism) 5 other developers. I'm looking straight out of a window, onto a earthy-romatinc wintery garden scene - a snow covered tree, a stack of fire wood, etc. It turns into a lovely garden scene in spring. 3 developers/engineers in a large living room. very romantic.

We are working in a home/office type situation. Big room with space for 5 desks. Carpeted and wood slanted ceiling. To my right are big bay windows looking out on a landscaped garden with Table Mountain in the background. In between us and the mountain is a beautiful wooded valley running up to the mountain side. It is a lovely place to work in and if it gets to hot there is a pool to dive into :) regards, Paul Watson Bluegrass Cape Town, South Africa Do you Sonork? I have my own office with a window... that looks out into the hallway! ;P I'll take it, though - no complaints here! Jon Sagara "There are lies, damned lies and statistics." -- Mark Twain.

I'm living in a cubicle :P windows behind me, and cotton balls hanging over my head, like snowflakes :) those are decorations, actually :) Carpeted floor, too. Only one day of work left for me, though, then it's holidays and school semester in January, which means desks and the library for me :) and, actually, I won't get a chance to visit CP anymore as much.............. :(( so I guess it's going to be time to say good bye very soon... one more day..... I work at Timex Corporation (the watch manufacturer...you know...it takes a licking and keeps on ticking) and we just moved into a new $50 million (US) state of the art building. The only issue is that no one has cubicles. Even the CEO and VP's are sitting out in the open. The owner of the company, Fred Olsen, who is a major shiping magnate out of Norway, believes that open office space encourages communication. Who knows??? Anyhow, I'm sitting here in my ergonomic chair at my state of the art desk looking out through the windows. The entire building is high walled glass (except for the roof) and we can see the sunrise and sunset no matter where we are. There is no direct lighting and the lighting even dims and increases based on the amount of light coming in through the glass. I have to say I was a bit skeptical moving from our old cubicle based building to the new one, but I really enjoy it. We are also situated out in the boondocks, so we get flocks of wild turkeys and deer coming up to our windows. It really is an experience. If anyone is curious, you can look at a picture (which unfortunately was taken at night, but you get the idea): http://www.geocities.com/BWThorp99/Office/Office.jpg Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation

Is there a hotel near there that would also overlook the stack? In 1981 when I moved with my parents to Texas we stayed in a hotel (can't remember the name) that would fit that description. This was my first visit to the US and although I was 10 years old, I vividly remember being impressed by the whole city "thing" - the organization, the planning, the "feel" if you will of a large American city as opposed to a Mexican one. I think maybe that was when I decided that someday I would live in this country permanently :) ___________ Klaus [www.vbbox.com]

My primary office is my home. No dress code, a wonderful commute, complete flex time, and no one cares if I drink on the job. The downside is that I'm never away from work, so the job creeps into my home life. My other office is in a high tech incubator attached to NJIT in Newark New Jersey. The building is over 100 years old and still has a strong chemical smell from it's days as a factory. It's actually quite cool, there are some biotech firms, a group doing MEMS, a ISP and a few software startups. The area around NJIT is rather rough, but the building itself is quite safe.

I don't know who took the picture. It was done to show the Christmas tree in a promotional bulletin. It wsa probably one of our PR guys. If anyone tried to look and couldn't see the picture, I got a message from Geocities saying that I went over my 2 Gb per month bandwidth limit. Try looking at http://pages.cthome.net/bwthorp/Office/Office.jpg if you can't see the other link. Brigg Thorp Software Engineer Timex Corporation
