Don't worry about the barrel size S&W makes a 3" model for export to countries who don't want to be overwhelmed. Richard Stringer wrote: PS: This is getting a bit on the far side is it not Yeah, the penis comment was obviously a little childish - I tend to get a bit fired up. It's obvious that there is a huge cultural divide between us on this issue, because some of the most intelligent people I know seem to me to become idiots in the comments they make about gun ownership. We may as well be speaking different languages, there is no chance of us reaching agreement. Perhaps I should learn to stop bringing this one up. But I doubt I will - I'm not that smart. What's next? A complete ban on tobacco products? Sounds reasonable... they provide no benefit except to kill. Ban them! Christian doesn't smoke, so who cares? What's next? A complete ban on alcohol. Sounds reasonable... bad for your liver... people do more bad things while drunk than sober. Ban them! Christian doesn't drink, so who cares? At this point Australia is walking a fairly puritanical road. A bunch of organized prudes get together and organize a ban on certain books. Starts off with Hustler magazine and Playboy, then old Henry Miller novels, pretty soon the Harry Potter series. Christian doesn't read that stuff, so who cares? Next, they start forcing specific religious beliefs of the general public. Everyone has to be Anglican Christians. No Muslims, no Jews, no Catholics, no athiests. Everyone MUST attend every service. Christian likes church, so who cares? Get my point? Pretty soon you won't even know how to protest. You become sheep. I for one want more out of my life and more for my children than to be sheep.

In my mind, the whole argument is wrong. We shouldn't be arguing about whether guns should be used, but whether they should even be made in the first place. Someone sat down and designed a object which is for killing. I think there is something wrong with the sort of person who would actually do that. Kevin

That's what I've been thinking while reading this entire thread. The world would be a much nicer place for my family and I if there was a worldwide enforced ban on the manufacture of firearms. Unfortunately, it's not going to happen. J

What a huge pile of bull. WE never HAD the 'freedom' to arm ourselves to the teeth. The majority in Australia supported removing the 'right' for the minority to own weapons whose sole purpose was to allow the killing of lots of people in a short timeframe. As I said before, no-one is remotely suggesting banning tobacco or alcohol. The steps you propse beyond that are even more laughable and unlikely. You're simply showing the religious indoctrination that all Americans have - if they take away our ability to own automatic weapons, it proves that we're headed for Stalinist Russia. It's been my experience that politicians/governments are like weeds. If you give them an inch they will take a mile. In my humble opinion you gave them an inch. Time will tell how much farther they go. ****Christian Graus wrote: You're simply showing the religious indoctrination that all Americans have - if they take away our ability to own automatic weapons, it proves that we're headed for Stalinist Russia. Get a grip on reality. I never cease to be amazed that so many non-Americans seem to think they know everything about the US and it's people. Maybe it's our television and/or our movies. Either way, it's just not real it's entertainment. Should I assume that all Australians are like Paul Hogan?

Time will tell how much farther they go. We don't trust our politicians either, but we don't assume we need to arm ourselves against them, or that their vision of society is so fundamentally different from ours. Why would they WANT to ban tobacco or alcohol when they make a fortune taxing them ? The whole point of a two party system is if one party had the unusual desire to impose the sort of censorship you suggested, the other would win in a landslide. There is no basis for a change of that magnitude that does not reflect the will of the people, it simply couldn't happen. All I know about people in the US I learned on this forum, not by watching the Brady Bunch. To the degree to which Michael, Chris, myself and any other Aussies here talk like Paul Hogan, you would be forgiven for assuming we were like him.
