got getAbstract.com?

Has anyone got a subsciption to www.GetAbstract.com and would recommend it? It seems like an awesome concept, but I haven't seen any mention of it anywhere. Cheers, Simon > blog:: brokenkeyboards > what I think of the OPTIONAL keyword in VB.NET? :: here > CV :: PDF > skype :: SimonMStewart

I got the two free summaries to see what it was about but I am not sure the $299 asking price is worth it. I can see how it can help you choose the right books to buy but at an average of $20 a book you can get 14 books a year instead of paying for GetAbstract. 14 is quite a good number of business books and with friend, editorial and co-worker recommendations I'd say you'd be reading enough good material not to need GetAbstract. It is a nice idea if you have the money to burn though :) regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

do" US$89 per year 30 summaries of great new business books per year " Agreed, it isn't cheap, but it's probably more efficient (and cheaper) than buying and reading 30 books during the year. "# that's four summaries upfront and one summary every two weeks. # NEW: You can personalize the subject area of your subscription." Hmmm, that doesn't sound ideal. So they choose the books for you? Also wouldn't it be better reading 10 great business books thoroughly than summaries of 30? It is sort of like thinking you can read Cliff Notes and understand all of Shakeaspeare. Still, $89 is better than the initial $299. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

These are business books we're talking about - you make up for the lack of quality in volume...

After reading my 5th business book centered around cheese I realised I had not learnt anymore than I had from the first one. That is the last time I let a boss lend me his personal library while flying on a long trip. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! See, that's the sort of talk that makes you sound like a programmer. There are books that are meant to teach you, and then there are books that are meant to firm up your confidence in what you already think. If you mistake one for the other, you'll only be disappointed... :)

Actually, I think I read a business book once that showed more businesses were successful by moving volume than by moving quality. Which, as you point out, is funny as it applies to business books themselves. I think you could make some money writing a business book about that, Shog9 from outer space. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! We are talking about books and not the SoapBox and other online "forums", right? ;) Frankly I never thought my cheese needed moving. It is when it moves by itself that you know it is ripe enough to eat. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

I'd have to learn to keep my sarcasm imperceptibly subtle first. :)

Oh good lord no. Business types love to think they are in on the joke and the more you can make them think that they got it and nobody else did the better. The problem is for them to get it it can't be subtle, or they won't get it and then they won't think only they got it. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, leave my bloody thread alone. regards, Paul Watson Ireland Feed Henry! K(arl) wrote: oh, and BTW, CHRISTIAN ISN'T A PARADOX, HE IS A TASMANIAN!

Hey Simon, How are you? My name is Yessenia and work in the marketing department at getAbstract. I was looking through some blogs and ran across this one. We are genuinely interested in what customers have to say and receiving valuable feedback. The purpose of getAbstract is to provide executives worldwide with the best in business knowledge. We are all limited with time and our summaries offer the most efficient way to absorb the key ideas of today’s cutting-edge business books. Our crisp, clear five-page summaries are packed full of relevant insights and readable in just 10 minutes – the perfect length to grasp the book’s main ideas. I have used it myself for my marketing career and I have read numerous summaries that have helped me with social media ( example Twitter Power by Joel Comm and Ken Burge) and search engine optimization ( example: Get to the Top on Google by David Viney) , and many other topics. We have the largest library of business book summaries. You have access to various books on the same topic and are able to obtain different viewpoints and authors. We also release 50 new summaries every month- allowing you to remain up-to-date on the latest business knowledge. It has also helped me understand concepts in other genres I normally wouldn’t read books about: Finance, Economics and Politics, Human Resources, and many more. We definitely recommend reading the book to get further explanation, etc. I, for example, was very interested in the summary of Jack Welch’s book Winning and ended up buying the book. But with our summaries, you read more in less time and save a lot of money. I just obtained this quote from a subscriber: “I have personally benefited by your services, especially by the extract on the book, 'The Power of Full Engagement'. I then bought the book and use it in my life, yielding pretty amazing results.” If you are interested, I can send you this summary for you to review. Also, we are also currently being featured in the leadership section of the Washington Post: check it here: http://views.washingtonpost.com/leadership/books/ Sorry for the lengthy answer :). Hope this helps with your decision. If you need anything else or have any more questions, please contact us- would love to hear from you! Yessenia
