"Fade to Black" - Metallica Anyone else feel this way? I hadn't heard it in a couple years. Just finished ripping my cd collection, and it came up on my mp3 player this morning. Must have listened to it 5 or 6 times in a row. I had forgotten how much of an effect that song had on me as a kid - it was the one tune I always relied on when things got bad. I still remember sitting for hours with my guitar trying to learn that opening lead.

Yes, it's an awesome song. Maybe the greatest, at least the greatest in Metallica's discography. ___________________________________ Tozzi is right: Gaia is getting rid of us. My Blog [ITA] The ScrewTurn Software experiment

hmm. for me, learning a song always sucks a bit of the magic out of it. friday night, i grabbed my guitar and started playing the Stones' "Start Me Up". turns out, it's probably the easiest song ever written, ever. but i'd never thought of trying to play it before. and now that i know how simple it is, i can't help but think "damn. these guys are barely even trying!" which isn't to say Fade To Black is simple, of course :) Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker

Yeah almost everything of Metallica before the Load/Reload (and after) period is great. I still listen to them regularly. Best song ever is "Baby, I'm gonna leave you" from Led Zeppelin. Don't know why, but it sends shivers down my spine :-). Coulda, woulda, shoulda doesn't matter if you don't.

"Hallelujah" sang by Jeff Buckley always sends shivers down my spine. However, my "greatest song ever" changes depending on my mood, or which band I am most into at the moment. :) If you listen to anything often enough, you'll probably get bored of it.

I got that same feeling when I started learning jazz, but (esp with Coltrane) it quickly turned into how is he playing that over the chords I just learned. It's kind of like debugging somone else's code - even if it's simple, you get a glimpse into the mind of the creator (although that's not always a good thing)

My all time favorite, for quite some time, has been "Letdown", by Radiohead, off their 1997 "Ok Computer". Not quite sure what it is about that song, but it always give me goosebumps.

"Take Five" - Dave Brubeck Quartet. And I'm listening it now, again.:) Patriotism is the willingness to kill and be killed for trivial reasons. Bertrand Russell (1872 - 1970) Patriotism is your conviction that this country is superior to all other countries because you were born in it. George Bernard Shaw (1856 - 1950) Patriotism is often an arbitrary veneration of real estate above principles. George Jean Nathan (1882 - 1958) Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. hmm. for me, learning a song always sucks a bit of the magic out of it. friday night, i grabbed my guitar and started playing the Stones' "Start Me Up". turns out, it's probably the easiest song ever written, ever. but i'd never thought of trying to play it before. and now that i know how simple it is, i can't help but think "damn. these guys are barely even trying!" which isn't to say Fade To Black is simple, of course :) Cleek | Image Toolkits | Thumbnail maker

I think that should be the official greatest song ever.
