        G. PALANI SAMY, Thanks for the encouragement and glad to see that there are few cases like me. I rarely find diploma candidates working in development. So can not share the experiences.

Start to look for a new job now, then! Stop thinking to you in negative term. Start thinking like a sales person. Which is not being dishonest! If ask, say, do you have only a diploma? Answer yes. But don't let that stop you. Show him you're smart! And that was, in fact, a source of motivation and hard work (obviously successfull as accepted by your previous employer). You should also run ahead of your employer question, and lead the discussion. Try to understand his/her needs (they like that!)(it's why you should ask business question, to know what he needs), then, once you have understand what he needs and see what you can do for him/her tell him/her: "Well that is good and well because this < insert thing he need that you know well > is one of my favorite speciality, indeed! I have ued it here and there, and blah, blah, blah...". Best of luck! ;P

In my experience people only cares upto a level about your degree in professional world unless you can prove your experties. So, nothing much to be worried about. If your english is good enough most companies are ready to give you a try. In my 7+ years of experience as a developer and 4+ job changes not even a single employer of mine has looked into my certificates. Resume is the key to success in professional world. One that can write good resumes will be called for an interview and in the interview, it is the professional knowledge that matters. So, write up a good resume that highlights on your experience and knowledge. This might help you finding a better job.

But don't let the paper hold you back. After you have enough of credential from work experience, the paper doesn't mean much any more. Like someone above said, you got to think like a sales person. You got to start think of the reasons why would a employer hire you, and work and gain experience in that direction. You got to let the employer what you are capable of, and you got to show them that you keep improving yourself and moving up the tech ladder, from starting as a programmer, then leading team members, acquaire the skills to negotiate with customers or requirement gathering, learn the domain knowledge (important), etc etc. You need to continuosly increase your own market value. I have been through the same thing, and I was not even in IT field before. You should start looking before it hit the fan, IMO.

Hey, Don't worry! IMHO its experience that matters more than education. Companies look for experience rather than education, although Experience+Education is a big plus. I for one am a BSc graduate but I work in a company where everybody else are B.E.(Computers)-. EveBachelor of Engineeringn the VP and President are Engineers. But my salary is way better than most of the employees because I make up for my deficiency in education through hard work and experience. I am currently a Team Leader and leading of team of people much more better educated than me. So, you see, experience and what you can give to the company counts a lot more than education. That is what I feel..... --- With best regards, A Manchester United Fan The Genius of a true fool is that he can mess up a foolproof plan!

Hello Ram Kumar One reason many companies do not take people without graduate degrees (that's under-grad degrees for N.America), is that, most of the work would be US-based, and if the company wants you to go abroad for an on-client-site assignment, processing a Visa for you would be difficult without a degree. Work Visas require a professional degree - US under-grad equivalent (which translates to what we call graduate degrees in India - such as a B.E. or a B.Tech.). Regards, Nish

Nish, That is not 100% correct. I know some diploma holders who came here(in US) in H1B Visa. This happened during 1999-2000. I heard that the consulting company can say "diploma with some years experience is equivalent to degree with less number of years experience". I don't know whether this is true anymore with the new Visa rules. Some of the guys who came with diploma got Green Card also. I know companies like Satyam, Polaris are bringing non-engineering graduates(BSc/BCom) etc these days and they are all getting Visa in US. Regards, Madhu.

Here's a fresh idea - if you have it so rough, just kill yourself now. Stop whining and act like a man. Geeze.

I will kill myself but not before killing you. Go find a new husband for your wife.

Hey Madhu, Yes, I guess Diploma holders and 3-year degree holders do make it here, but most companies would prefer someone with a 4-year engineering degree. But thanks for the info - I am sure the original poster would have got encouraged by that. :-) Regards, Nish
