http://news.monstersandcritics.com/india/article_1180166.php/A_stoic_Mumbai_limps_back_to_normal_day_after_blasts[^] New Delhi - A bruised and battered Mumbai put on a brave face as it limped back to normal Wednesday, a day after a series of bomb blasts ripped through the city's rail network leaving 190 dead and more than 600 injured. Schools and colleges were open as usual, some with full attendance, others were thinner. So were shops, business establishments and offices. And the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), symbolic centre of India's busy commercial hub. Riding on Mumbai's indomitable spirit, the Sensex, BSE's 30-share sensitive index, after an initial dip soon after opening, rose to touch 10796.32 points in the afternoon, about 1.71 per cent above Tuesday's closing. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Mumbai. -- modified at 9:35 Wednesday 12th July, 2006

It's kind of sad that we measure how the people are coping in terms of money...

That is the spirit of the Mumbaikar. However, my heart bleeds for those who lost their lives, and their families. :(( I have several friends and relatives there, and everybody managed to come out unscathed. One friend's father was at one of the places where a bomb went off; but thankfully he was on the road, not on a train. If you think of it, all the bombs exploded during rush hour, in the railway system that's the heart of Mumbai's transport system; cleverly meant to kill as many breadwinners as possible. And they've succeeded in their gruesome aim. X| I'm outraged and saddened, but also feel powerless at the same time. :(( Cheers, Vikram.

It's the reverse really. The money terms are dependent on how people are coping. Regards, Nish

True Vikram, It is a sheer helplessness of the public to silently witness all the heinous cruelties heaped out on them. If the terror strikers really have the dare, they should have targetted the attacks towards the VVIP cadres and not on basic low income and middle income group. It has become a repeated nuisance throughout India from terrorists under different brand names. Really wonder, if there really existed any department called 'Department of Police'. Even in yesterday's CNN IBN Television channel (as telecasted in India), most of the volunteering activities including ferrying of the injured were attended by the good hearted taxi drivers and even for name sake one cop could not be found. Time alone should heal this infection suffered by India and other world. Vasudevan Deepak Kumar Personal Homepage namespace LavanyaDeepak

8 bombs in 8 locations within 10-12 minutes. That was planned and well-organized. I wish there were some arrests made in connection to the blasts. If nothing happens, what's to discourage similar future occurrences? Regards, Nish

Mumbaikars had always shown their courage and spirit.Last year we saw how people helped each other during the floods. People searched for those who had lost contact with their home ,gave their cell phones for making calls. Some tea shop owners gave tea and food for free of cost to those who had caught up in the floods with their vehicles.1993 blasts also did not help the terrorists. Everybody knows Mumbai is the financial capital of india and these type of acts would not affect the spirit of mumbaikars . Yesteday all telephone lines were jammed when I tried to contact my friends and relatives over there . They were in such a hurry to enquire about others. Everybody knows that what those terrorists would have meant by aiming at the nerve of the city traffic system.Recently, terrorists group has started aiming at the soft targets killing innocent people, since they knew that confronting with the millitary is not that easy.
