Who knows how I would go about getting a travel job in programming (or IT) that would allow me to traverse the globe constantly, not staying anywhere longer than a few months at a time and making decent money? Personally, I think that would be awesome. Hints, tips, contacts? (or low votes?) A man said to the universe: "Sir I exist!" Presumably, since Goole earth is still in Beta there is going to have to be a UAT phase - that'd involve IT and a lot of travel ;P '--8<------------------------ Ex Datis: Duncan Jones Merrion Computing Ltd

I think he needs an income in order to do that. Constantly. regards, Mircea Many people spend their life going to sleep when they’re not sleepy and waking up while they still are.

Consulting in the past has kept travelling a lot. It was not uncommon within the same day to be in three different cities at different states. Any large consulting company would do this for you. Another idea is to job hop. I am not sure how well this will work on a long term. You could be something like the technical advisor of a sales team. Naturally sales teams travel a lot. Get involved with a company that requires to install a lengthy product at different worldwide sites. However, you get burn out fast living out of a suitcase.

Do SAP / Oracle consultants fall in this category?

Look at a semiconductor equipment manufacturer. It is what I did for a long time. The travel was great, the money (per diem) was great, and the work was fun for about 8 months. It's a great way to go if traveling is what you want to do. But, expect 18 hour work days, travel on your weekends on a pin-headed managers whim, and total destruction of any relationship you have. Good Luck Chris Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

Sounds like fun to me. Being a travelling consultant already eliminates any possibility of a decent LT relationship. A man said to the universe: "Sir I exist!" "However," replied the Universe, "The fact has not created in me A sense of obligation." -- Stephen Crane

Amen to that!!! I have just such a job and whilst the travel has cut down dramatically this year last year I spent something like 9 months on the road with the longest stay at home of about 5 days. I'd also say that when you've done 9 trips to The Philippines it does take the shine off that particular destination. Hrmm, I better write down all these names. Then when my contract is up I will know who to call to get the hook-ups. I am willing to trade a red paperclip. To be honest, I probably don't. Everybody I worked with left the industry like I did about 4 years ago. I'll ring a few bells if you are serious. Also, check with Rob. He may have more "fresh" leads than I do. Cheers Hey don't worry, I can handle it. I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why are you dressed like that? - Jack Burton

Sure, all relates to the structure of the company that you work with.
