What do you say?

Went to my mums yesterday after work to collect my little boy and found my brother has moved back in. It seems him and his wife are splitting up. After being together for about 8 years they got married last September. Now they are spitting up. I feel kind of awkward and dont know what to say to him. It seems she just doesnt want to be with him anymore.:sigh: Jon

There's probably not much you can say. The best thing might be to just listen to what he has to say about it. Good luck. :rose:

after 8 years? Brother does not need to be at home. tell him to get off his butt and stop feeling sorry for himself. Sorry, it seems harsh, but I've seen the sibling-returns-to-mother-when-things-go-bad routine way too often in my own family.

Its not quite like that. He has only gone there for a few days. The house they live in was his before they met so he is giving her a week to 'sort her head out' as he puts it and find somewhere else rather than just kick her out there and then. I guess she will move back to her mums within a few days and he will go beck home as it really doesnt seem like they will stay together. Jon

If the marriage wasn't working out, then it's better they go their own way. Even if one person in the relationship thought/felt it wasn't working, then it should end; because it only drags down the other person that's desperately trying to save it all from failure ... ... some battles, cannot be won, no matter how good your intentions.

Jon - sorry, had a few issues like this in my family, so I confess to overreacting. Hold on, I need to take my foot out of my mouth.... The best thing is to not try and act like it's a funeral. Life goes on, even when things get difficult.

life goes on, take him to a peeler bar and liqur him up, get him a few lap dances, then take him to the seedy part of town and get him laid

Only thing you can say to him is; "How can I help? What can I do?"
only two letters away from being an asset

Say "hey, now that's she's available again, can you give me her number?" ;P Marc

Or show him your post and maybe he'll laugh at how insignificant his problems are in comparison to yours! ;P

Jonathon, That was pretty predictable. Any time a couple date for more than 6-7 years before they get married, the chances of the marrige lasting are very slim. And more often than not they split up the first year. Tell him to fight for the mutaul friends. Good friends aren't easy to find, so he shouldn't just give them all to her. Chad

and he? It's one of the weird things you hear from time to time - long term couples breaking up shortly after marriage. There are explanations, but I don't think they help (or are even applicable). Get his mind off "it". Don't hide, or shy away or avoid "the thing", just give him something else to occupy his thoughts. He might turn to sulky any time - that's ok, you both are men, you can just sit without talking :) You are brothers - any things you two did enjoy "back then when you were young"?

No, Link2600 would say something like "Well, now that she's not getting any from you, maybe I can go bang her". Marc
