Rewriting an OS isn't the way to go for stability, it will have to iterate a few times before it gets that.

XP was a cludge because it was an itterative design. XP is NT 3.51 with plug and play and power management tacked on. And that is where the problems come from. NT never expected to have hardware come and go while it was powered up. And never expected to have parts of it put to sleep randomly in an attempt to save power. So alot of the underlying system finds it very hard to handle these events. Vista is an atrempt to get it right. And certainly some is new, like the USB system, but I am sure alot is still old XP stuff. But I agree with you, it would be nice to get a Windows OS that was as good as NT4 was (in its way), however, if MS didnt bring out new stuff, often without need (as in who really needs Vista anyway?) there wouldnt be so much work for us, so I dont mind too much if MS keep bringing crap to market.

Because Vista is so graphics heavy? If so, then yes, like all of us, MS powers the food chain that keeps us in beer!
