I dunno the exact def; of religion, but i think atheism and religion in the same sentance is like a oxymoron no...? I feel strongly about being nothing(atheist) yes, but I dunno if this qualifies as being religious...??? What an interesting topic to bring up on CP... However, because you do not have a 100% perfect knowledge of the universe and it's workings, the x% that you don't know about could hide the supernatural that you claim doesn't exist. Therefore, your claim is a faith based claim on the nature of the universe and qualifies as at least as a metaphyiscal claim on the nature of the universe, equal to all other 'religions' Where the difference resides is that 'Religion' usually includes other trappings, such as common rituals, dogmas, etc. that Atheists tend not to have as a whole. Personally, I feel that an ardent atheist is just as 'religious' as I am. The answer to your paradox is very simple actually. As an atheist you claim there is no God/Supreme Ruler/Force/etc. and that the material world is all there is. However, because you do not have a 100% perfect knowledge of the universe and it's workings, the x% that you don't know about could hide the supernatural that you claim doesn't exist. Therefore, your claim is a faith based claim on the nature of the universe and qualifies as at least as a metaphyiscal claim on the nature of the universe, equal to all other 'religions' Where the difference resides is that 'Religion' usually includes other trappings, such as common rituals, dogmas, etc. that Atheists tend not to have as a whole. I accept what I can see and touch and stuff...you know...non-metaphysical things. Reality I think it's called... :) Atheists are neutral and look for the 'correct' answers, not the one that makes you feel better.
