10 Reasons to end Internet Explorer

People just don't get it. MS lures you to their products and gets you hooked. Then you don't want to change to something better. Also, I customize everything and IE's security, popups and toolbars are something that you just cannot remove. Trust em, if I can't remove it, then no one can. And one more thing, it's hard to back up word of mouth on a forum.

Weird.... I've got FF and I use it occasionally, but I still default to IE because I think it is better. I've got OpenOffice and I use that occasionally, but I still default to Microsoft Office becuase it is a better product. If there are better things out there then please enlighten me.

I'm not convinced IE6 is naturally less secure than FF. It is less secure in practice because malware writers target the biggest audience possible, which is IE6 right now.

Sorry but if he has tried it in three other browsers and it displays correctly, then it is IE's rendering engine that is at fault, nothing to do with his web coding skills. I agree with most of you on the other points, especially the removing of JavaScript seeing as that is used in Visual Studio and many other microsoft products where they chose JavaScript other VBScript of their own volition. So far I am hating IE7s tabbed browsing so far, the right click menu on certain links does not contain "Open new TAB" for example the "jump to new message" V link in the vBulletin software such as used in the digital spy forums. Also the open in background and foreground tab menu items just seem to result result in a string containing a GUID going in the address bar. Does anyone know of any fixes for these?

I know, many people like IE and would never switch. But as for me, I think Internet Explorer is the worst piece of software Microsoft has ever wrote (all versions). Here are 10 good reasons to end IE: 1. Horrible layout. 2. Extremely bad Web Engine. I was designing a web page that looked awesome in Firefox and Opera and even SAFARI, but IE jacked it up all because of a missing margin that IE doesn't show. The whole header was pushed to the other side of the screen! :wtf: 3. MS is planning to make JavaScript not view in IE so everyone has to use VbScript, limiting designing capabilites for FF and Opera users! 4. You cannot customize IE or skin it (manually, not MS's skins or extensions). With Firefox, you can skin and customize Firefox anyway you want. Mozilla has a whole 500 pages of extensions people have designed for Firefox. (Let's see MS live up to that)!! 5. Annoying security alerts when downloading or even viewing a web page. 6. IE will block windows that you are trying to open thinking they are popups, but when an actual popup comes up (that you did NOT open), IE won't block it. 7. MS had to be a JERK and embed IE into windows so you cannot uninstall it. If MS didn't make an Operating System that 80% of people used, then I would switch to a Mac. But, I can't since I develope software and need to target the Majority of people which I cannot do using Mac. 8. No tabbed view of pages (IE7 has this and I heard that it locks up when switching tabs). 9. Some programs upon install, will install toolbars, menu options and ads. You cannot remove these either. 10. IE just sucks. Plus, they once made MS's website uncompatible with any browser except IE. :wtf: That's includig FF, Opera, Safari, Mozilla etc. And, Ms is monopolizing other companies. Like me for example, I am a hard working Software Developer, hoping to make a difference in the world of cyberspace someday and have my own well running company. But I don't want to buy out other buisnesses just so there's no competition! That's the whole point of a buisness. You fight for your company and you don't give up. Survival of the fitest. Microsoft just buys everyone out because they don't want people to switch to something better. What does that tell you... MS SUCKS and they don't want you to know it!! So please, 10% of people use Firefox, let's bump that number up, or at least use something besides IE. Microsoft is corrupt, just like Wal-Mart. Ummm... good business is buying the competition coz they are better, and using their technology etc... EG. Google bought YouTube, Oracle bough Postgres!, Symantec bought smaller security application companies (they need all the help they can get ;)

To those still using IE for anything other than WindowsUpdate ->>> USE FIREFOX! Install the "Extension" that allows you to switch to an "IE view" with one click of the FireFox Icon in bottom right corner, http://ietab.mozdev.org/. I use this for development. The IE settings can all be configured in 'Control Panel'->'Internet Options'. How? Well, on-click it switches to an IE "pane" in the Tabbed Pane. It does not affect any other panes or windows, and you can switch back with one click too. Happy Migration ;)
