From the insider: Apple ditches 'Mac Guy' in new ads[^]. Quotable quote: as the report points out, most people who've watched the "Get a Mac" ads come away "liking the 'PC guy' while wanting to push the 'Mac guy' under a bus." I wish I could participate in a survey where one of the response options was "Push the guy under a bus" :)

As for the reasons behind Long's dismissal, it's not exactly clear. But as the report points out, most people who've watched the "Get a Mac" ads come away "liking the 'PC guy' while wanting to push the 'Mac guy' under a bus."

Man that was one nearly pointless commercial definitely ridiculous on most of them. Maybe one made some sense or at least the implied notion wasn't totally ridiculous.

They are probably just sympathizing with the "nerdy" type/pc guy because he's made to look stupid. The really dumb part is, you should be firing the writers not the actors if they don't like the way the mac guy is (I assume it's not just based on looks). But, as usual, the wrong guy taking the fall is nothing new.

Maybe it is an American thing but I really disliked those ads. Same with the Apple Virus ad. It reminds me of dirt flinging in politics.

I just watched the new ones, and I think they are more tame than the originals. It is dirt flinging, but it's funny to laugh at I have to admit.

The nerdy guy, John Hodgman, is a semi-regular correspondent on The Daily Show. IMO, his bits on TDS are hilarious. Perhaps a lot of people who responded to that survey recognized him, and thus responded positively on his behalf.

Maybe. I don't watch TV, so I don't keep up with who's who. But, I don't see any real reason for the guy being canned. Maybe I'm just not used to showbiz. :)

I'm an american, I've never seen the dailyshow, I agree completely with the tossed under a bus sentiment in the original post.

In my version of the Apple Guy vs PC Guy make a movie, I wish the pretty girl would go away with the "PC Guy" and the "Apple Guy" would be strangely attracted to the PC Guy's girl. And where is the bit where the "Apple Guy" is actually the one giving the "PC Guy" the virus, in the form of a corrupted iPod included disc? LGM

The first time they interviewed him for his book was one of the funniest segments on the Daily Show I've seen in ages. The part about FDR and hobos had me crying with laughter.

When did this phrase get world-wide approval? I'd never heard it before then all of a sudden everyone's getting pushed! (e.g. Denny Hastert for the Foley thing.)

I liked those Apple adverts. I'm a PC user and never used a Mac. I did like the PC guy in those add's, but I guess that's just the rooting for the under-dog in me. I didn't get the urge to push the Mac guy under a bus though. If there was a poll with this as an option I may have selected it though ;-)
