LinkSys WRT54G Update

Still not working at home. Brought my laptop to work and had the network admin connect it to our wireless network here. Worked like a charm on the first try. No configuration or anything. I'm still at work and will try it on my router again when I go home. However, when I tried connecting at home to my neighbor's unsecured wireless network, it didn't happen either. This makes me wonder :wtf: is going on. We really need a head-banging emoticon. :)

Its a horrid, horrid router. Linksys sneakily changed the hardware from a (very nice, very moddable) embedded linux system to a crappy vxworks system that dies from bit torrent abuse and fails to carry VPN traffic. I'd bin it if I were you.

are you wanting to use 'wpa' and your computer doesn't support it?(there is a windows update so that windows will support 'wpa') your work it probably use 'wep' which is why it connected no problem.
I'm wanting to connect to the internet after my two-year old broke it somehow. Any Windows update is currently problematic right now.

It seems like you have discussed this topic earlier, but have you tried the DD-WRT firmware (www.dd-wrt.com)? This has solved a lot of my issues. When I was using the default firmware, connections was lost constantly. Now it only occurs every other day, and even though this has an adversely affect, it is better than no connection at all. If you consider buying new hardware, buy one of the awesome ASUS devices!
