Herb Sutter on VC++

Interesting read.. VC++ to Aim at Full ANSI/ISO Compliance? C++ continues to be the dominant language for most kinds of development on Windows. In the .NET world, C++ is still the best-performing language for most development work. The need for a flexible programming language that can handle everything from high-level abstraction to bit-twiddling, all unified within the same language, isn't going away anytime soon. // Fazlul

It is interesting reading. They talk about some of the questionable features in the standard. Many of which I have whined about. Herb also makes a very valid point about portability. It seems there are a lot of people who want things added to the standard for the sake of portability. However, as Herb correctly points out, people have been creating portable software without having new elements added to the standard. Which does give me a lot of hope that the standards committee does have actually have a more pragmatic view of the problem. Portability != Standard. Tim Smith I know what you're thinking punk, you're thinking did he spell check this document? Well, to tell you the truth I kinda forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this here's CodeProject, the most powerful forums in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question, Do I feel lucky? Well do ya punk?

It's basically the same thing that Herb said to Chris here at CodeProject. Nothing new at all. The news will be with SP1 of VC++ 7 ... until then ... Cheers, Joao Vaz The Most Unhappy and Frustrated TCL programmer,besides that a Happy guy

Hey Fazlul, I'm not against your post, it's me, since I'm a Herb Sutter fan, I have his two books, I read every single programming column he writes and every internet interview he gives ... so for a stalker like me isn't news at all :laugh: Fazlul Kabir wrote: Just thought we all needed to have another morale boosting article. And we need man, we need , I want to do Partial Template Specialization on VC++ 7 and I'm waiting in despair for the SP1 ... Not really. What I am saying and what I think he is saying is that to write portable code, things need not be in the standard. Portability can exist without a standard. Standard goes a long ways toward portability. Tim Smith I know what you're thinking punk, you're thinking did he spell check this document?
