AdSense in articles

I voted him down for even thinking about using those things. I can't stand those damn things! I like to scan the document with the mouse pointer as I read and those stupid things keep popping up all over the place. It's hard to read through those little windows that pop up over everything I'm looking at!

It is frowned apon here, but if you like I can give you a free* webpage that you can fill with adsense! *Note: May not actually be free, infact it won't be, I'll charge $5.50 per month.

"*" means that conditions apply. It means you should look the the matching "*" later in the document to further define the statement.

Not intrusive? Ads in signatures are, first of all, usually off-topic - which means, literally, that they are intruding on the conversation. Secondly, they tend, in many cases, to be more colorful, bolder, and/or take up more screen space than the posts - see, in this very thread, the signatures of Kreskowiak, Shog, Punathambekar, Clifton, Brad, and even your own. This makes them distracting, and whatever distracts intrudes on one's concentration. Finally - just in case you're not convinced - take a look at these: Bright and beautiful[^]. Colorful and animated[^]. Nicely centered[^]. Literary[^]. Simply Elegant[^]. Wide Character String[^]. Retro[^]. Not intrusive?

Well, yes I see what you mean, but while you or others may find some sigs annoying, for the most part, the style and content of these are just extensions of peoples personalities, which as I mentioned, is one thing. Sigs can be ignored while reading articles/posts (because they're at the bottom), Adsense and the like tend to form part of the article/post, so cannot as easily be ignored, I think alot of people on this site would find it highly irritating to have advertising like this in articles, myself included :). Like I said I see your point, but I don't really accept the double standards argument, call it a fine line if you like, but even so, it's a very tangible line.

True, but I can easily find whatever you want to reveal about yourself in your profile. So why should I be slapped in the eye with unwanted, distracting, intrusive, and redundant information in every post?

Tangible, yes. Reasonable, it is not: In a thread about fruit, "I like apples. | Our compiler [^].", is acceptable. In a thread about programming languages, "Our compiler [^]. | I like apples.", is not. Nonsense!
