This is my 100th posting. As things are a bit quiet here (delivered an integration project connecting java claims system to steam driven clunky claims management system in 2 months instead of 6, 4 months of contract left, tum te tum) I thought I'd run a fun-filled (ha!) quiz as my 100th posting. As this is the lounge its not programming related, but more random. Heh. Free bottle of beverage (beer, cider, elderflower cordial, etc) to the first person to get all ten right. I'll pay postage too. 1) What is the name given to materials that become more viscous when pressure is applied to them? Name two examples. 2) What is the LHC looking for? 3) In what year was the 1812 overture written? 4) In 1999 there was a criticality event in Tokaimura. When did a similar British criticality event occur, and where? 5) What was the previous name of the Betty Ford Clinic? (yes, its a trick question)(No, I won't give you a clue)(Come on, stop whining. Think laterally. No Fear.) 6) What letter is indicated by the following mixture: Hydrazine, Methanol, Water. 7) S212 less one – what is it? Where was it built? Clue: It was completed in 1929. 8) Roughly how far will a (full) 440ml can of Stella Artois fly if you strap 5 Estes D12 motors to it? Take into account the weight of any structure to make it fly straight. Ignore air resistance. Assume 45 degree launch angle. (Note – don’t try this at home.) 9) A PA20 light aircraft runs on aviation fuel. It burns 20 litres an hour at a cruise of 105kts and a height of 12,000 feet. It carries 130 usabale litres. It climbs at 1000 feet per minute at 75kts and glides at 70kts with an 8:1 glide ratio. It uses 40 litres an hour in the climb. The flight goes from Leicester airport to Beccles (lands) and returns, cruising at the 12k cieling. The aircraft starts the flight with 75% fuel. Do they make it back to Leicester or do they run out of fuel? 10) What links a place with no resident, Coniston Water and the NFU? Enjoy!

For 1 I was going to say non-Newtonian fluids but they change with movement not pressure. Elaine :rose:

Non-Newtonian fluids are a group that include the one I am thinking of, so pretty good. I believe they change with stress, which I in my pseudoscientific mind equate with pressure... ah well :)

I'll give somebody else a boost with the answers to 2 and 3: 2. LHC (Large Hadron Collider) - looking for answer to fundamental questions about the universe. Initially looking at what gives matter its mass, what is the invisible 96% of the universe made up of, why does nature prefer matter to antimatter and how did matter evolve from the creation of the universe. 3. 1882 I'm pretty sure that 1 is Elastoviscous.

Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.
