Stupid Dopers [modified]

OK, some dopeheads have been over here painting the buildings all week, and for the most part it's been ok, until today. The guys painted right over a very obvious digital thermometer out on my deck! How the heck am I supposed to read it like that? Actually I can read it from it's base unit inside the house, but I'm sure it's wrong and all messed up now... the humidity sensor is probably damaged beyond repair. It's only worth 50 bucks but it really upsets me cuz it was a Christmas gift from my dad. The windows in my place need replacing but the landlord is too tight to spend that sort of money so he sent a guy round to paint the outside of the frames with creasote. The guy turned up 7:30am, eyes already crossed, fixed grin and brush waiving aimlessly in the air. By the time I got back from work he'd left, having creasoted my front door shut so that I as good as had to break it in. It must be the paint/creasote fumes :wtf:
Nothing is exactly what it seems but everything with seems can be unpicked.

What will you say if they insist that you should have removed it prior to the painting? Don't expect the boss to just hand over 50 bucks without a fight.

Theres a product called Goof Off that might work, if warm water doesn't. There are two versions of this product. The original is an alchohol based product and you DO NOT want this! But they recently came out with a non-alchohol version and I've used it and it works pretty good. Haven't tried it on paint on plastic but should work. Good Luck Mike

It's a condo, and I have no say in the matter. These guys are definitely not pros. I was a contractor for a couple years and I know this type of crew. Hopefully they won't be hired again. I am going to have to go trim the tree though and probably re-paint my chair. I could have taken the chair inside and it's older than dirt so I don't care much, but obviously the tree couldn't be moved. I wouldn't be surprised to find out these guys painted people's cars and stuff too. I had a guy drop a ladder on a car once... his buddy's car. That's the kind of guys I'm talkin about here... you have to remind them not to paint their glasses, cuz then they take them off and paint their eyeballs instead. I did figure out that I can get a part replacement for 20 bucks plus some shipping, so I'm just going to do that and call it fixed. They taped over some other stuff, so I don't understand why they missed random things here and there, and this was obvious... it's a big white thing with an LED readout on it. Totally strange.

I wouldn't say totally strange, but totally retarded. The people who did the paint job must have been the lowest bidder for the job and having some dopeheads do the job can very well happen with the lowest bidder.

For latex, any type of warm water with detergent in it should work. Try scraping some off with a razor blade first. If it doesn't come off with water and detergent, it's probably something other than latex.

There is no way to fix it but the part can be replaced for 25 bucks so I'm not going to worry about it. There was a lot of stuff that went wrong here, and you can be sure I'll be bringing a list in to the next HOA meeting. This work didn't need to be done in the first place and I'm a little bugged that they did it anyway... to make the buildings 'look like' the ones across the street, which are managed by the same company, but the whole thing is stupid, because we are the owners and it's almost like we have no say at all in what happens around here. I've got lots of photos of negligence, trash left around, dangerous equipment sitting out in the open, etc, etc...

not necessarily. The idiots my landlord hired to restain the exterior woodwork looked like just out of HS kids and did an equally wretched job. They missed almost 10% of the back surfaces slopped almost as much stain on the ground/concrete porch as on the wood itself. Didn't tape or move anything. The rubbermaid tub I have on my porch was totally covered in splatters when they were done. Not to mention the highs the days they were painting were in the low 50's and you need temps near 70 for it to set properly. IT was tacky for several days before finally drying. X| :doh:
