laptop frenzy, which to buy?
-
another person (me) is trying to buy a laptop and I'm as indecisive as that cat[^] who did or didn't die. right, to get to the point I've narrowed it down to these : a) Dell Inspiron 1520 with it's best specs (customized) (T7300, 2gb ram, 15.4", nvidia 8600M GT, 160gb sataII 7200, dvd rw+-) b) Dell XPS M1330 (customized) (T7300, 2gb ram, 13.3", nvidia 8400M GS, 200 gb sata ii 7200, slot dvd rw+-) c) Sony FZ190 (customized) (T7300, 2gb ram, 15.4", nvidia 8400M GT, 160gb sata 5400, dvd rw+-) d) Acer Aspire 5920 (configuration AS5920-6661) (similar specs, HD DVD, looky here) the point aren't the specs or the prices, since that i can take care of myself. nor am i exited that i can get either blue ray or hd dvd. I'm happy with a DVD RW. i like to know from fellow CP members, if anyone owns one, their opinion. i've heard: a) acer has a cool hd drive that can't eject when a usb is plugged in cause it's next to it. (doh!) plus it's ugly as sin inside. b) dell xps 13.3" is beautiful and shaggadelic and has a lot drive, which i adore. But a 15.4" XPS hasn't been made. Why Dell? Is 13.3" too small for a person who is a gamer and a developer? c) Dell Inspiron is just big, not so fancy and hasn't some of the XPS features i would love. Yet it's got it almost all. d) For some reason I do not like Sony Vaio, but since i never owned one personally, I shouldn't judge. Pretty it is, great specs and i hear that it get hot easy. For those who have owned any of these or similar, please shed some light. p.s. i currently own an Acer 5672WLMI (lxatd05014) which i absolutely love.

very hot yet very big and hot means that it's sexy, but it also means that it burns the fingertips and a hole through the desk after a while. my mate had to buy this[^], which isn't sexy at all :P plus it only comes with the GS versions of the cards, and I'm debating the power of 8600M GT vs GS. 17" is truly too big for me.

The resolution of 1280x800 is a bit small for a devloper (IMO). The base resolution of the Inspiron (1440x900?) is better for that. Personally, I'd be buying an Apple (MacBook or MacBook Pro - that's the difficult decision)...but that's because I already have an iBook, am quite happy with OS X and willing to access Windows via a virtual machine (Parallels or VMWare).

The real difference between the two is the presence of a real graphic card (nVidia for the MacBookPro vs. an onboard for the plain MacBook) My brand new MacBook Black is a really nice laptop!
