Two US-Robotics modems in the old times when modems were very expensive. São Paulo has lots of thunderstorms in the summer. Now I have ADSL and never lost or heard about losing an ADSL modem. It seems to be stronger   Crivo Automated Credit Assessment

Brian, since you are a tech support person. May I ask a stupid question? How do I replace the modem myself? Do I need to take the damaged one out (and bury it)? ;) It is an internal modem that comes with my computer. Ok, I admit that I probably asked more than one stupid question. ;)

Well really they owe us alot, we don't get bills just threatening calls because we didn't pay the bill, outages on weekends are common, nobody is working on weekends to fix the outages that usually occur right after they leave on friday :(, and they have been constantly probing our network :( -:suss:Matt Newman / Windows XP Activist:suss: -Sonork ID: 100.11179

Does that happen to some of you too? Actually the modem wasn't been used at the time (the computer was on). The thunder also destroyed my phone, but the phone line was ok. The funny thing is, my answer machine had 88 messages after the thunderstorm (from GOD?), all of them are just some kind of noise. Now, I am left modemless at home.

If your modem is onboard you can just replace the little phone-socket-card that is attached to the main board. This happed to me too some time ago... I replaced the socket-card and the modem start working again. I am the kind of guy who threw away all instruction books as soon as the computer was set up (actually, I put them in a place I forgot almost immediatly). So I don't know what type of modem it is. Maybe it's time to take the computer to the store for help. ;)
