We did get a lot of advancement from the space race. Teflon for one.

Don't forget Tang. :laugh: Seriously though, there's a long list of useful spinoffs from the space program. I have a Heinlein essay listing a number of them that he wrote ~1980. If I can find the book it's in I'll post them out tonight.

Tomorrow (Oct 4th) is the 50th anniversary of the Launch of Sputnik, and thus the beginning of the Space Age. Great things were promised... Moonbases by 1980, orbital Hotels, Space Girls with 3 breasts and green skin. Well ok, in 50 years we have seen many great things, the advances have been amazing. Pioneers and Mariners to the planets. Then Voyager, the greatest journey of them all. But as we sit here thinking of the acheivements made, ask yourselves this... Where's my JetPac? Will man ever land on the moon? Why are Aliens only abducting amusingly uneducated rednecks?

I find it sad that things that are promised seem to always revolve around technology--cure this, do that faster, go further, work less, feel more, feel less, etc. But really useful things, like "peace on earth", are ignored. I guess we like gadgets more, especially gadgets that kill. Marc

Given enough sufficiently inventive gasgets for killing people then you can ensure peace on earth. Well, as long as you've wiped out every last person on the planet (including yourself of course - after all, you may end up having a falling out with yourself).

Hmmmm Space Girls you say - I think we have been invaded in my area - did other traits involve inability to handle alcohol and wearing short skirts over scabby legs with their belly folded over the top? If so we defo have them round here.

No, not until women and beer can join him. He wanted to get there once, found nothing of interest and ran away. Until the moon has women, man won't go there. So the bigger question is will women ever land on the moon? and will there be TV and Beer?

The average man is uninteresting and boring. Just as we study chickens rather than dolphins for brain research (got a friend who is an expert in chicken neurological activity, honest!), so too aliens find the bizarre actions of amusingly unecucated rednecks... well... amusing! Thus worth studying. They probably abducted a few average men and women too... they slept through the experience and the aliens found that quite boring.... plus the snoring from the male rattled their nerves. The woman, if she woke up, blamed a man rather than aliens.... it was all too depressing. So they stuck with the rednecks. And the ultimate question.... Yes, we did this over 35 years ago. What is cool, is we're doing it again. Moon 2.0. I'm virtually going to be next virtually. I'm on a team. Paying work must stop (and silly postings) for me.
