You saw it in Van Helsing. Ahhh...good old Hollywood shaping our view of the world. :) For what it's worth, there's nothing in Christian Scripture (or Jewish Scripture, for that matter) about werewolves, nor anything about holding a cross against something to kill it, like you saw in Van Helsing. (The concept of having little crosses as jewelry, pendants, or charms is also a relatively modern invention. Wearing a cross around your neck would be really strange to folks in Jesus' time; it'd be akin to wearing an electric chair or guillotine around your neck today.)

As has been already pointed out to you, the word/name 'Satan' comes from Hebrew; whereas the word/name 'Saturn' comes from Latin. And there is nothing inherently evil about the number 666. That number is "the number of a man's name." The Hebrews and the Greeks (and the Romans) used letters of their alphabets to represent numbers. Thus, the numeric value of one's name could be computed by simply adding together the numeric values the letters also represented.

They come from completely different languages that developed in isolation. Kind of makes it unlikely that they are common.

I'm not saying Hollywood invented anything, they've just helped to spread it worldwide. Vunic thought most Christians believed in vamps and werewolves because he saw it in a Hollywood film. :doh: I think the same could be said for a certain former vice-president's sensationalist doomsday movie, but alas, I'm dipping into soapbox material. ;)

I don't doubt that is some roots, probably from Roman Catholicism, that lend some kind of supernatural power to cross trinkets or jewelry. I suppose some folks still put supernatural value on those things, whether trinkets of crosses or saints. In any case, such things aren't Scriptural.
