I greet you all Would you please give an advice, I am planning to get Microsoft Certication very soon but I am not decided which MCTS certificate to go for first as I develop both Web and Windows apps and I want to get Certfied in both specializations and than go for Distributed apps certificate. So I just need an advice, which one to go for first or should I just go for the MCSD straight away? Thank you for your advices.:-D

If you are looking for a new job with the certification then I would recommend the Web Applications one on the grounds that most jobs advertised want ASP.NET. If you are using .NET 2.0 or higher I wouldn't go for an MCSD as it is a .NET 1.x certification. You might try looking as the MCPD instead which is the .NET 2.0 equivalent.

Certification is a waste of time. Consider that MS changes the rules every year, so a new certification is required. Finally, the end of the Mayan calendar is very close (5 years), and the world is going to end. Any certification you might earn now will most certainly be obsoleted by the end of the world as we know it.

I got my MCAD almost 5 years ago (Feb 14 2003 to be exact), I see job adverts requesting it all the time. It doesn't become obsolete that quickly.

And here's me using WPF, and looking forward to .net 3.5, bleeding edge development, makes my CV look kinda pretty. Roll on VS 2008, cant wait for LINQ, DLINQ, Visual Studio support for WPF, Acropolis and Silverlight 1.1 (I'm not gonna touch 1.0 until support for CLR lanugages).

As one of those 'crazies', I'd like to respond. We have production applications that were written in VB 6 before .NET appeared; these applications need to be maintained and enhanced as necessary. One application in particular is coupled with a web portion; the web portion is written in classic ASP with VBScript. Yes, there are newer, better, faster, more robust technologies, but, thanks to Sarbanes and Oxley, changing these applications is a momental pain in the... backside... Last week, our call center replaced a PC at a remote site... it was an early PII version, still running Windows '95. I propose that if the world does not end when the Mayan calendar does, you have to take an embarassing picture of yourself (details to be determined by best idea here) and use it as your profile picture for one calendar year. If the world does come to an end I'll be happy to reciprocate.

Which brings up a question - if reincarnation really exists, and assuming that reincarnation is an unstoppable force, what happens if everyone is blown off the planet in one fell swoop? Would we be so desperate to re-instantiate ourselves that we would come back as whatever life form was spared the destruction of the planet?
