The reason international sports should be banned!
-
Last night Korea beat Italy in the soccer. This morning there were reports of rioting in Melbourne. I was listening to a radio report on the way in to work this morning interviewing the italian fans after the match. What incredibly racist comments! I'm sitting here wondering if there is more sports related violence around the world than religious related violence. I know a number of posters have, from time to time, expressed their opinions that religion is responsible for many of the worlds ills. I reckon sports takes the number one position in that regard. ;)

The majority of football fans are not thugs, racists or twats, and there is no way that we should allow a small group of prats to spoil it for the rest of us. Sport is not the reason of the spreading violence, it is its expression. Ban sport and people will find another way to express their anger. Y'a cool jouer avec Maradona qui fait tourner gratos dans les vestiaires - Merci Maradona ! - Y'a pas d'quoi ! Ludwig Von 88, "Goal Di Pele"

I agree all organised sport should be banned. Activities of individual excellence should be promoted while competitive team sport should be abolished. Regardz Colin J Davies

here, here. Supporting sport doesn't cause violence, people cause violence. If we take away sport, they'll just find another way. Michael :-) "Eureka" is Greek for "This bath is too hot"

Sport is for doing , entertainment is for watching . These guys might as well riot over the plot of a soap opera , after all that is just entertainment also ! What a wonderful thought ! What soap opera plot would induce you to get pissed and create mahem ? Ain't nobody ever told you : There ain't no sanity clause .Groucho Marks

I have a friend in the police force who told me there were 50 street fights in our town after the England - Denmark game, and England WON. What would have happened if they had lost?! Systems AXIS Ltd - Software for Business ...

I don't see why this is a reason to ban international sports... Mr Morden wrote: I know a number of posters have, from time to time, expressed their opinions that religion is responsible for many of the worlds ills. I reckon sports takes the number one position in that regard I can't believe you could say that... as far as I can see, none of the major wars and problems in the world at the moment are/have been caused by sport.

Then it would just be "The Korean guy is faster/smarter/stronger/better than the Itallian guy! Go Italy!" Why not throw away a dime? I throw away ten pennies all the time.

At the risk of sounding preachy, I believe that both religious violence and sports-related violence, and any other cause of violence are all results of humanity struggling to find meaning to a universe that lacks God. What I mean is, if God was really in their life there would be no violence. Without God the best purpose they can come up with is rioting because some team lost a stupid game, or blowing themselves up because some religious leader said they would gain a better place in heaven. Just my opinion. :) Why not throw away a dime? I throw away ten pennies all the time.
