Great game :-) At 410 grains of rice, my score was 41. But I'm my native tongue is English. :) -- modified at 2:45 Sunday 11th November, 2007 played it again, this time armed with a cup of coffee, scored 46 at 1510 grains of rice. :) But it does get boring after sometime. :suss:

Many English words have their origins in other languages. Springbok is just a more recent addition. but you will find it in most English dictionaries. Jumping Gazelle just doesn't sound nice.

I got to 40 on 760 grains of rice. I'll try again tonight when I've finished some work. What I found interesting was the number of words whose meaning I could infer, based on their roots, or likely origins in other languages. I would never, ever have known a camelopard is a giraffe without knowing it is called a kameelperd in Afrikaans.
