US/Washington DC. 20 years in the industry, 10 years in software. $100K +/- depending on bonuses and options. However, before you think about moving, salaries are high here because it's expensive as hell to live in this area. For example my car insurance costs more than my mortgage used to when I lived in the midwest, and I have a clean record. Townhomes start at around $180K, and normal housing in decent areas is $250K and up. Rent for a 2 bedroom apartment was $1400 per month 5 years ago.... I probably lived better on 30K back in the midwest, and didn't worry about getting shot while walking my dog, and my kids had a chance at a decent education going to public school.

I have eight years experience in software development (I am a Mechanical Engineer with 15 years experience as an ME) and currently work for a Nasa support contractor developing failure analysis software. I make $85,000, but I am due for a raise in August. I am sure that my salary is somewhat influenced by my ME experience, even though I am doing software fulltime. I live in Huntsville, AL

U.S. (Ohio), 20 years experience, $95,000 per year. Unfortunately, I've reached a bit of a ceiling here in Ohio. To substantially increase my salary, I would have to convert into a manager, either in a company or on my own. I like getting my hands dirty too much...

Hi there ! I'm from Germany, and i'm making about 40K$ a year with 4 years of experience, but living is so expensive here since we got at least the euro, it's so f***ing expensive (1l Gas some 1,10$ and more, (>4$ per Gallon  ), a house (200m²) about 250-300K$....) It's not fun, because most of your money is tax and insurance, wich is a must have (more than 60%...) Uhhh....and than, it's enough for a use car.... Greetings from a strange world !!!

Olli I feel like I'm diagonally parked in a parallel universe.....
