I'm older so I liked the original.
I bet I'm even older and I got a kick out of the original (even though Jimmy Carter interrupted the premiere with some nonsense about the Camp David Accords ;) ) but this show is knock your socks off good! It's 9:21 p.m. EDT right now which means I have 40 minutes to episode 3 - eat your hearts out, Brits. ;P

Any Galactica fans out there?...the season opener was pretty good...kinda wondering where they are going after this though.
Man, I'm jonesin to watch season 4, but need to finish season 3 first. Just watched Eye of Jupiter, Rapture and the one after that. Good stuff!

The season opener was terrible. The cliffhanger they left with was poorly resolved, the actors were definitely just going through the motions rather than being really engaged, which I chalk up to having a hiatus due to the idiotic writers strike, and the whole production/directoring of the opener was poorly done. The whole "ethos" of BSG was lacking, from the acting down to the camera jiggles and wierd angles and even the sound track. It reminds me of what happens when you pick up an incomplete software project a year after letting it gather dust. BSG definitely needs to vacuum off the cobwebs! Marc
Tsk Tsk, Marc.

So when they write it's their fault, and when they don't write, it's their fault, too. Under these conditions, if I were a writer, I'd go on strike, too.

'Boxie' was the kid...the dog was a 'daggit' and his name was 'muffit', I think :)
I've got the original series in a boxed set in a tin in the shape of a Cylon head. Tried to watch it but it was too painful and my son turned it off in disgust. I can have a look if you want to see if your correct with the names.

The package sounds pretty cool...if I'd seen that, I would have wanted one :) Thanks for offering but I won't put you through the suffering to see if I'm right (I'm pretty sure I am) :) One of these days I'm going to see if I can get hold of a few episodes, for old time's sake :)

No. :) From my understanding, these episodes (for any series actually) are usually not planned in any detail. Certainly not cliffhangers, from what I've been told. So, there's the third if: If the writer's strike hadn't happened, the resolution of the cliffhanger would probably have been better AND the acting would have been better. :) Marc

You have some valid points. Maybe it's being in a BSG-starved state for so long that I'm happy with anything that they put out. A friend of mine knows Alessandro Juliani (the guy that plays Gaeta) ...he seems pretty down on the whole thing like he's glad it's ending. Update: note to self: stay away from the keyboard while drinking beer...

That was EXACTLY the impression I got--they all just want to get it over with now. Marc

Yeah, it's too bad too...it's the only show on TV that I care to watch. They're supposedly working on a new show called 'Caprica' that will be set 40 years previously and deal with the first Cylon war. They could always get them to Earth and start a new show from that too :)

I remember the original series doing that, and it was a disaster. If I were in my 20's, I'd be looking for fanzine (or whatever it was called) and authors of books that further the story and characters. As it is now, that stuff just totally bores me--I'm actually surprised I wasted an hour of my life watching the S4 episode. Marc
