I agree up to a point; it seems that open source projects and others have homes elsewhere. What I would really like to see, is a private forum for Gold and above to truly communicate about lower level articles, questions, etc. without getting the b*tchiness returned from lower level members.

I feel that some are not openly honest; they don't want to hurt feelings so they say nothing. I'm open--I think we all know that. I just wish everyone felt free. I think some hold back.

I've just seen the article for Php here in CP. I'm sure its a very good article, seems to be well written and all that and I'm sure this has probably been discussed before. But I for my money adding non M$ coding technical areas is (in my opinion) polluting CP's article base, its brand and heading in an "all inclusive" direction which makes me feel uncomfortable (get over it Bryce it's not your website) From my point of view Historically the real strength of CP has been its focus on M$ technology, somewhere I could come and not have the other stuff messing things up. These LAMP JAVA etc sections and the issue raised by Marc point to a heading which I'm not too keen on. (Get over it Bryce its not your website) Am i the only one who currently thinks this ?- I'm probably just having a bad week. Bryce

Should understand and know multiple languages and technologies so they can pick and apply the correct one for the given situation. Are there times I recommend LAMP over MASI, absolutely. Just like sometimes I use C++ or Java. Personally, I think a well run community that also support real software developers would be kind of nice. (Ok, I am just kidding with that MS jab)

              1. Allow source code searches. Sometimes the only bit of information you have is the name of an API method and any example making use of it would be helpfull. 2. This should return Maunder's articles having to do with ASP.NET

              Search for: maunder

              use attribute filter

              ASP.NET

              3. If I get a lot of results a quick way to narrow them down would be a rating filter (ie show me all results with a rating of 3.0 or greater) 4. I would also like the ability to sort by rating. If I'm trying to grok a new technology I would like to start with the highest rated articles first. 5. Search by sections[^]. Allow me to browse to http://www.codeproject.com/KB/reporting-services/[^] or select it as a filter and perform a search on "image".

I think about this every time I see another post from the "Hi, how was your day" guy. If there was such a forum, I would probably never come back to the Lounge. Maybe that's a reason not to have it? I know that being open to everyone has always been the CP hallmark. Lately, I'm getting the feeling that posting inane comments has become a kind of sport with the kiddies - like maybe they have contests to see who can generate the most replies to their drivel.

                  Best wishes, Hans

Might just be me, but every now and then when I try to look at page 2 of the results of a search I get a blank page...Haven't a clue how you would fix it though (or even proove that its not just me) (Using IE7, WinXP, and there should have been results on the page) Chris

You know, I read the articles in the lounge almost every day - occasionally get a laugh or (perish the thought) learn something. Since I rarely contribute to the conversation, I don't think I'd be a Gold member. I'd miss the candid discussion and thoughts that are posted here. -- my 2 cents --

Bryce

I've found myself wishing many times there was more php lamp articles on CP. Actually though I see the point of having the site dedicated to M$ technologies. Perhaps CP could start up a sister site focused on LAMP.
