Oh no you don't! Lets I have 4 computers hooked up to a 4 port router with the modem hooked up on the WAN. On each computer I have a program listening for something on a specific port. A far away computer sends a packet to the IP address my ISP gives me, it sends it on the port the programs are listening on. Will the program on each computer see that packet, even on one of those smart routers?
The Digital World. It is an amazing place in which we primitive humans interact. Our flesh made this synthetic machine. You see, we are so smart, we know a lot of stuff. We were grown from cells that came from the universe, which the matter and physics I'm typing in it is amazing how the universe is working. Human life is very amazing. How I experience this sh*t its like wow.
I'm no network expert, but I think the router fowards ports to a specific IP. On my router, for example, I have to forward ports to my local IP's. So if I want to open port 42000 on 192.168.0.25... Actually, I'd be interested in the answer to that too. I wonder if it's possible to forward, say, port 42000 to 192.168.0.25 AND 192.168.0.30... Hmmmmmmmmm.

Vote Democrat, get a government-backed entrepreneur loan and knock yourself out. Seriously, if you have a viable idea, talk to your bank. Present yourself like a respectable citizen with a well thought-out plan. Lots of institutions are interested in business loans.

Why? So I can be taxed to death and have all my freedoms taken away? That doesn't make sense.

I don't need a lot of money to start my own software company. All I need is a computer, internet connection, and a useful product to sell.

So you can get a socialized loan. It was a joke.

Shareware? I don't think shareware is a viable business...anyways, if you have ideas, setup a website and advertise. It's not complicated.

I can understand computers in and out, everything from how the hardware works to software development, but networking has always been a tough subject to me.

When hackers and under-world thugs are so complicated to understand and use sophisticated techniques to bring legitimate systems crawl down and succumb, networks need to be built with more complex logic in defense at least as a survival strategy.

These are the investments for a greater rewarding career right? These days, at least in India, we have something called 'Distance Education' for working people to get degrees. For example, you can check out Alagappa University website here (http://www.alagappauniversity.ac.in/[^]) and try looking at the menu 'DDE' which has details about it.

I can set up a network easily, but I want to actually understand the ins and outs of networking.

That comes with experience right? We learn first alphabets in our school. Then grammar in next class. The fluency of the language itself comes while actually practicing (communicating) it. The scenario you described is similar to this example.

Not as far as I know. A modern NAT router will typically ignore an unsolicited incoming packet unless it has some local mapping for it - and then it will simply translate the address and send it to one address on the local subnet. Essentially it allows you to distribute port listeners around your local subnet, but still only have one listener on each port.

It doesn't matter if I am the best programmer in the world. I have to spend thousands of dollars on some receipt that says I have been educated from a school which takes years to get. Then most employers require around 5 years of experience working as a programmer for a company.
