Website virginity broken at last.

Hi folks, Just thought I'd post this to the collective masses here at CP. After a lot of swearing, a hell of a lot of reading, and even more late nights I've finally built my first website. I thought I'd offer it up to your scrutiny so I could get advice as how to improve on it. For some reason the normal domain name www.ozfarmguide.com stopped serving about an hour ago (I'm gonna sleep on that one cos I'm stumped) You can have a wee look at it here http://ozfarmguide.web702.discountasp.net[^] I'd like to thank everybody here on CP for all the articles i've read and questions I've had answered. You guys rock! Oh and it's written in VB and Linq to SQL :-D

Question: Are there Any farms, or is this just a test? I don't see any.

I agree that it seems to be a bit slow (I'm in USA). But overall, it is a good layout and seems to be an original idea (most important part). One thing I noticed is that your "Info Menu" appears to redownload all of the data for the menu every time you mouseover it and it doesn't always complete or sometimes it is very slow (10+ sec) to complete. Unless you plan on changing the contents of this menu very frequently, I would recommend sending it once on each enite page refresh instead of every mouseover.

Nice layout, seems good. Fails validation[^] though.

Thanks, I'll have a further look at it. Something's majorly wrong with the dns pointers though. still can't get on through the normal address.

Great layout... Speed is a little slow but that could just be the host, not your site. Just one question... are you sure this is your first site? I dont think I have seen anyones first proper site come out that good

Cheeky! Yeah, my first. I really really worked hard on it. I think more so because it was for me. I studied my ass off. I'm thinking that I may have to implement some sort of script handling to boost the speed a wee bit (I saw an article on CP about that but i'll have to translate from C#). All my images are small and I've tried to get everything to load in the right order. I'm pretty sure my code could probably do to be refactored also. Thanks for having a look!

Hehehe.... There will be. I'm backpacking at the mo so been working on a few. I'm forcing my friends to do writeups too and I'll be putting up posters in the hostels. Hopefully word of mouth can get the ball rolling.

Cheers. I'll have a look at it. The sites actually hosted in North America on DiscountAsp. I'm not getting the menu problem but I'm not 100% happy with it anyway. At the mo the pages are loading within one or two seconds but I'd like to cater for all connection speeds if I can. I'll have a wee tinker.

I like it, well done. Just a little suggestion, you could make the website link to a farm a hyperlink, if you don't want people leaving your site just make it open in a new window.
Cheers. Good suggestion. I'll get on to that. ;)
