To me it's culinary insanity.

Southern people have odd tastes. See also: biscuits and gravy, chicken-fried steak, collard greens (boiled with extreme prejudice)...

Have you ever tried any of those? I certainly enjoy them all...but I'm from the South. ;) (BTW Gravy goes with EVERYTHING, Steak, biscuits, mashed potatoes, salad, milk, etc.)
Yeah, i've tried 'em. I've even made all of them, with the exception of over-cooked greens. I still don't see the appeal. (And proper gravy is meat drippings w/ herbs, spices, and a bit of thickener, not bechamel w/ a bit of sausage and pepper... ;P )

That would be Gerry Rzeppa, not Gerry[sic] Hammond who was the OP.
Ouch... I deserved that one. Is that guy still around?

You're making me hungry. There's a bakery near where I live that makes pies to die for.

Yeah, maybe. Biscuits usually aren't kneaded, the idea being to get them as soft and airy as possible (to better sop up the gravy...) But yeah, basically the same sort of thing.

I wouldn't often knock one back myself.

It was a choice, I didn't feel like going through the system. I don't really need food stamps since I work in a restaurant. I can't wait to eat a big plate of chicken over biscuits when I get into work today.
Just what are these biscuits?

There's a petrol garage across the road here that sells merely OK pies, but now I really want one.
