If the U.S. wanted to get rid of Islam don't you think it would be banned in the U.S.? I have no idea why I wasted 5 minutes of my time writing this.

Alqaeda(if it exists) is a brain child of American Neocons. If you spend sometime in reading rather being and ignorant than it could make you a bit credible.

So lets see: America created Alqaeda so that it fights its own allies ( Turkey, Spain, UK, US, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait..) and create terror attacks around the world? Is that what they are teaching you in school son? oh yeah, its definely not what it is, some radical idiots interpretting Islam the way they want to gain power. Again, You are an idiot. Sorry could resist not mentioning that again.

Being a citizen of the U.S. with full voting rights I can safely say "we". Bush may have used the word "crusade" to describe the GWoT, but that is a common English word. "A grand concerted effort toward some purportedly worthy cause." I don't know if English is your native tongue, but American English has many many words with dual meanings. Bush was not referring to a "holy war" against Islam. I don't think I ever said anything about the advancement of other cultures.

I haven't even read all of your post, but let me say that your 'banishment' was also humour. I understand sarcasm isn't easy to detect on the Internet, next time I'll use the joke icon. Sigh. PS: It's called Deadpan.

So, let me explain my part. Someone says cricket is a violent game. You ask why. I take a guess at it. You call it bollocks. I say yes, cricket is bollocks (and there's a wink icon, to give you a hint that it is merely a humorous play on words). But then you start:

This is a free country; I can say what I feel about a game. You and I need not have the same opinion. I am free to hate what you like and vice versa. If you think that I am a shame to this country because you like cricket, but in my opinion, cricket is bollocks, that tells me something about your maturity. How many people from India are contributing to any technical community? Quite a few do. The rest (say about 95%) are urgentz-source-code-wanting-losers? And amongst the ones who contribute, how many are recognised? I am not boasting, but I just can't accept that I am a shame to this country. I am a pride to this country, and fortunately it doesn't matter if you agree with me on this or not. So, why am I a pride? 1) I have been awarded an MVP by Microsoft recently. 2) My present employer has declared me as one of the best programmers they have, and they have inducted me into their hall of fame - just yesterday. They have published an article in their monthly magazine, and a soft copy of the same was circulated to over 5000 employees worldwide. 3) I contribute towards creating a good image about this country amongst other urgent monkeys who drop urgent crap all over the boards. I am proving it over and over that this country of mine too can produce programmers, who will stand amongst the best. 4) Most importantly, what I feel honored about, is that I was awarded as a CP MVP. That was the happiest day in my life. There's no nomination, there's no recommendation. It is a true selection process and it's my best achievement. I am probably the only one living in India who is a CP MVP? Can you name another one, please?

I think you are all of those things you say you are and rightly take pride in. The U.S. would be glad, and lucky, to have someone like you emigrate. But I think you need to accept his explanation that he was joking, just as he must accept yours. By the way. I think Cricket is bollocks ;P

I'm glad you explained your intention. It really didn't come across that way. It happens, of course, and, as you say, it's advisable to mark any internet humor clearly, and let the reader catch the deadpan quality. Or, failing that, be ready with an apology if someone is hurt unintentionally.

I agree with Oakman. There is so much mud slinging in the SB that you have to be very clear if you are joking. When I first read what you said, I figured you were joking, but you have to be clear to the recipient. I'm sure if English isn't a first language that makes it even harder. I've seen people use the joke icon and people still take it the wrong way. I think we need to start using joke or sarcasm tags. Those we all seem to get! :) And if you read through Rajesh's post you will see that he too is very accomplished and I'm glad he's part of our CP community.

Calling someone a shame to his nation doesn't look like the best humor to me. I usually have a good sense of humor, but that didn't sound like a deadpan. However, with all due respect, that joke sucked.
