Funnily enough ive generally had better experiences with budget brands than the big ones... A quick search of online reviews for the flash drive that your interested in usually gives you a good estimate of its performance.

We've settled on OCZ Rally USB keys here - they're fast, reliable and compact. :) I wouldn't have thought you'll get much of a performance improvement with ReadyBoost on a 4GB machine, though.

Avoid the OCZ Rally2 - it'll fall apart on you. I've had two of the 16gb version that have been been used just 5 or 6 times, and the connector on both are loose. It would cost more in shipping that it's worth to replace them with new ones. I'll use them till they fail and then buy another brand.

I have an Attache from PNY. Cheap but effective. Goes on your keychain.

Depends how many gigs of apps you have open at a time I guess....

Lots. I've usually at least two Visual Studio sessions running (one debugging the other) for a start. That and about a dozen other apps, of course! :-\ Unless I'm doing really intensive analysis tasks, the system memory (5GB in this case) doesn't seem to get stretched. Visual Studio itself doesn't take much at all.
