I was reading up on IE4 the other day on Wikipedia and to much amusement found that it's marketing slogan was "The Web the Way You Want It!" ;P I dont know what surveys they were using to determine how users "want the web".. And also its amazing that 11 years on and almost 4 versions later, they STILL haven't got it right. Regards, --Perspx

Was it better on UNIX than Windows, by any chance? Regards, --Perspx

Nope. It was much more sluggish on UNIX, and consumed much more resources. If I recall correctly, they used a windows emulation layer developed for UNIX. I think it was called "nut cracker" or something like that - a commercial porting kid developed by a third party.

I didn't say it was crap - however if IE is like it is now then what was it like 11 years ago? Unless it has gone downhill dramatically..? Regards, --Perspx

No, but it was better than Netscape at the time.
