From what I hear technically Windows 7 will report as v6.1. Depending on how you count it will be either the 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th version of Windows - so IMNSHO "Windows 7" is the perfect name.

Windows Azure is a good name as well they saved that name for a bigger os (cloud services etc) :-) Windows Puce sounds cool, heard the word first time :-)

I like it. It's unpretentious and a refreshing change from all the cutesy "marketeer-speak" names. You remember how the BG/Seinfeld ads bombed? I think they took a clue from that. As Joe Friday used to say, "Just the facts, ma'am."

No, I would have preferred they'd stuck with old-fashioned version numbers ever since Bill Gates decided to call Windows 4 Windows 95. It's just been inconsistent ever since.

How about Windows "Crap"? It's about time they invested in some truth in advertising.

Problem with the year naming method is perception by non-clued-up users. "Windows 2009? But it is 2010, where do I get Windows 2010? They don't have Windows 2010? Wow, surely they should have an update this year? No? Hmmm, oooh look, Mac OS XI." I've had a similar conversation over Office. "Paul, do you have Office 2008, I can only see 2007?" Obviously it is advantageous when the version matches the year, then people are without doubt that they have the latest version. But it only works in the current year. Windows 7 is just Windows 7. If there is a new version hopefully it is Windows 8.

                                        cheers, Paul M. Watson.
