So here I am working on a WPF app. I wanted to see the docs on a type, so I placed the cursor on the type name, and pressed F1 eagerly awaiting the Help app to open on the type's page. Unfortunately I get a "Help Update In Progress" dialogue - even though I haven't installed anything recently. And MS was so clever that they made VS unusable when this help update is in process; if I try to do anything in VS I get a "Delay Notification" dialogue box giving me the choice to either keep waiting, or switch to the app it is waiting for. Why in all that is holy and mighty can't I keep working in VS while the Help explorer is updating? God this is annoying.....123!"#!"%¤"¤%U¤)#%#¤

Like Christian, I use Google. The only time I use F1 help is when I accidentally hit F1 (usually when I hit F2 to refactor->rename). Visual Studio has put in me a deep fear of the F1 key.

I use F1 help, and feel your pain. But it's much worse in SQL Server.

I get the same effect as hitting F1 when I stick my tongue in a light socket.

I usually do that as well. But the type I wanted to peruse, was the Image type. And so I thought that it would be easier to hit F1, than to type System.Windows.Controls.Image into Google (just typing Image obviously isn't that big of a help :)). Of course, I was wrong. X| X|

From the details I have gleaned from between your exceedingly bad language :) it sounds very much like your help has become corrupted. After all you'd expect it to find 'Image' wouldn't you? I had the same thing recently. I tried the 'Visual Studio 2008 Combined Help Collection Manager' (VSCC) even though all looked OK. Incidentally MS seem to have done something right because typing VSCC into help actually brought up the tool, even though everything else was broken. In the end I had to reinstall help.

I usually open the help separately - so it won't block the VS UI. That way even if it freezes with an update for several minutes, VS remains usable.
