I can't believe this. I've stood by this product long enough. Web Matrix is better equipped to build .NET web Applications than VS.NET which is very sad. Let's just start with the basics: Web Matix has built in FTP / VS does not. Web Matrix has templates for those files you don't build too oftem like web.config and global.asax..... VS does not. Web Matrix can hide all the HTML code and give just the code I need VS only can with ASP 3.0!! And neither can compile a script and drop it off in the application bin The list goes on but I really don't want to... basically I'd like someone to tell me what I just spent nearly $800 on. Because there really is little here for building a web app; it's all in the .NET SDK..... which is free. Real programmers don't document. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.

Shame. Heaven forbid you learn how to use another FTP client. pmenefee wrote: Web Matrix can hide all the HTML code and give just the code I need VS only can with ASP 3.0!! Sheesh, learn how to punctuate your sentences so that you at least make sense. pmenefee wrote: Because there really is little here for building a web app; it's all in the .NET SDK..... which is free. Thats what I used the betas and RCs for, to evaluate whether it would meet my needs. I would at the very least try to scrounge a xx-day trial version, or maybe even a warez copy before shelling out that kind of cash. That said, I do agree that .NET (VS and CLR) is lacking in certain areas, but I don't act like a little whiny kid about it.

Sorry, I didn't want to come across as whiny. And after reading my post this morning... I guess I did, but I was so pissed off. Time is money and VS is getting real expensive. And surely I'm not the first to mention this. Real programmers don't document. If it was hard to write, it should be hard to understand.

No doubt we'll see the best bits of Web Matrix rolled into the next version of the VS IDE then. Kevin

pmenefee wrote: Web Matix has built in FTP / VS does not. Oh I can just imagine the C++ uproar if VS.NET had an integrated FTP client. "Who needs this crap?" "Stop bloating my C++ tool!" "Those wussy web 'developers' need an integrated file copier?" And anyway, I would agree with them. I don't want FTP integrated into VS.NET. I want to be able to choose my FTP client, and probably would not use the VS.NET one. BTW how good is Web Matrix at building, lets say, C# class libraries which you then use in your web app? If it is no good at that, then I am sticking with VS.NET :)

Paul Watson wrote: BTW how good is Web Matrix at building, lets say, C# class libraries which you then use in your web app? ok - there it falls down. :) I basically used it as a tool to introduce the basic structure of the .NET application to some friends. I also use it myself occationally to modify relatively simple apps. (Ususally when I'm on a PC that can't map to the server - hence the FTP :)) But no, it doesn't build. I don't even believe it has a compiler. Again, I was i a real pissy mood when I posted that first thread; so I digress.... a wee bit.
