VM Player

I'm running the VMWare player & have an XP image, however the VM doesn't see my local USB ports. How do I make the VM see my USB ports?
If you're using Virtual PC, I don't think it has USB support. If you want to attach USB drives or something like that, you have to attach it to the host PC and then map it as a shared folder in the VM. Oh, I just noticed you said VMWare, so in that case I have no idea. :-O

It may not support that. I know that virtualbox binary version (limited for personal use) does but their open source (use it how you want) does not support USB at all.

Hmmmm... I seem to recall using the open source version on an Ubuntu host and having USB support. I'll have to re-check when I get home.

Why was your first thought to ask here instead of on the vmware player community forum?

No, just a painful bit of gas left over from a big lunch. I'm feeling better now. :)

You might check to see if USB hardware is listed in your VM machine hardware list. I don't know about VM Player, but in VM Server USB support is an option during setup of the VM. It can be added/removed from the hardware list after setup as well.. My personal experience has been that the VM machine picks up the USB hardware fine, but I have also read forum posts saying you had to plug into the USB after the VM machine was started. Perhaps it is hardware dependent.
