I wonder who uses Starter and Home Basic. I think they should just release Home, Business and Ultimate. Those would make sense in my opinion.

Hands up who can explain the difference to their parents/friends/mother-in-law/neighbour when you get that call from the computer store and they need advice on which version they should buy.

Starter is the CIA version (China, India, Africa - sorry, guys), and Home Basic is the "My laptop can't Aero, and I only surf anyway" edition.

How long before they get sued for "Windows 7 capable" stickers on PC's?

It looks like they didn't learn ANYTHING from our Vista experience or Apple's single-version marketing... I thought the complaints were loud and numerous enough to be noticed by Microsoft, but I guess not...

C'mon John, surely you know better than that. Multiple, confusing versions is simply a sales tactic used by the unscrupulous against the ignorant. Car companies have been doing it for decades. Your average moron will pay $$$$ for that fine Corinthian leather that actually came off some steer headed for the slaughter house in Kansas. This is simply the software version of that. Dad goes into the computer store. Is he going to buy Windows 7 Home Basic because all he does is e-mail and surf pr0n? Hell no! He's going to buy the big tricked-out version.

Windows 7 Nimbostratus Virga ? is that the one where you can see it working on something, but it somehow never manages to finish ? that's why i'm going to use Windows 7 Hot tower . it's hard to beat a Hot Tower.

I would guess that "Windows 7 Compatible" means it will run Starter... They need to shorten the name to Weven.

He used the Windows Repetitive Framework. Microsoft uses this particular framework quite a bit when they want to persist mistakes made in the past. As you can see, Gary has extended the framework to typing repetitively similar words.

Start with Tom's Hardware, and then google for various "reviews" of Weven. Any review that's worth a damn will mention it.

How intuitive. Of course, you've completely missed out: Windows 7 Server Windows 7 Enterprise Windows 7 Data Center Windows 7 Really big office block Windows 7 Holy Smoke - how much disk space does this beast consume and Windows 7 I've just figured out that they are all the same OS, and I can reenable features just by tweaking the registry R1 SP2.

I know that was true with older versions but this can not be the case can it?

He used the Windows Repetitive Framework. Microsoft uses this particular framework quite a bit when they want to persist mistakes made in the past. As you can see, Gary has extended the framework to typing repetitively similar words.

I don't think this is entirely Microsoft's fault. The EU, US Justice, various states and countries basically forced the existence of the Starter and Basic versions, though I'm sure there are Microsoft Marketing Morons (yes, redundant) who think it's great.
