virut.ce

Ok, I'm near 12 hours trying to remove this virus, using latest kaspesrky, avg and nothing. In the latest 15 minutes I can remove it from system files, but it misteriously returns! In some forums I read that after the virus removal, I need turn off the computer, and to wait more than 5 minutes to turn on again the pc to ensure that the virus was removed from memory! Another forum says that virut.ce can write itself in the MBR! So, even after I format the HD, I will need fix the MBR too. I see viruses like this in the old times before the Internet, when virus spread over floppy disks. Actually, viruses are exe files that you find and delete and remove from autorun. Appears that that virus turned to "old-style" viruses. I think that I will stop to fix another person computers... I'm really tired this. I'll back to Visual Studio and blame Microsoft for to dare to launch Windows Vista. I was so happy... :sigh:

Try deletion virus files from safe mode or using recovery console first before you format HDD.

If the virus 'magicly' returns try running 'msconfig', uncheck all services and start-up programs then reboot and try to remove it again. Most likely the virus has a backup service or exe somewhere running on start-up that makes it return when removed. Other than that I can only say I feel your pain, ever since my internet provider changed routers on me I'v been having one bad nightmare after the other with viruses. I want my old router back, never had any problems with that one :sigh:

There are also forums claiming that people can fly. Seriously, this is pure BS. Start by checking what is in the Run keys of the windows registry, disable services using msconfig, monitor processes, and you should get rid of it quickly.

How can a programmer believe in something like that? 5 minutes is not enough! With large RAMs and today's slow OSes like Vista, you may actually need to wait up to 60 minutes before the RAM is cleared. Everyone knows that the OS clears all the RAM while the computer is turned off. That's why you can get the virus on another computer if you quickly swap their memory banks. Another possible solution for this would be total immersion of your RAM chips in bleach for 30 seconds. Bleach is cheap and widely known as a capable of eliminating several forms of viruses. HTH

Exactly my point. It reminded me of the story about the hotline call which ends "Pack your computer and bring it back to the store, you are too dumb to use it", even if it is a bit exaggerated in this case. But hell, I can't expect him to have enough technical knowledge to get rid of a virus if he still believes such forum BS.

LOL. The refresh rate of the memory is 55 milliseconds. So in order to clear it, just leave it turned of for a bit more than that, say like 1 second. :)
