President's attorneys file motion demanding birth, college records be withheld from public[^] What was all that about transparency again? Seriously, why not hand them over? Why is it so important to him to keep his records hidden? He's got nothing to hide. Right?

Nobody's asking what he has in his house. I have to show records to board a plane, but he doesn't have to show documents to be elected president. I appreciate your attempt at dismissal on grounds of hypocrisy, but you're comparing apples and elephants.

What right does the American public have to look at his academic records? I thought the only prerequisite for the Presidency was to be American born? The question of his citizenship has been settled already. The Republicans could have already contested his victory if they thought it was an issue. The transparency he was talking about was government transparency, not transparency of his personal records. I don't understand your concern.

Nothing new here in the Soapbox. I remember someone one time comparing driving a bus to flying a jet fighter. Really, I'm not making that up. Although if I was, it would be just like getting hit the chest with a sledgehammer.

 Shame I missed that one. That sounds like some of CSS's handy work (or Adnan). PS. 5 for hillarity and to offset the douchebag who thought that deserved a 1.

His citizenship was never in question. What is in question has never been settled or even attempted to be settled. More legal teams to avoid it are a great case in point.

He is at the highest level of government, and some have questions as to the legality of him holding that position, which sounds to me to be relevant in a discussion of transparancy of government.

I have mixed opinions, none of which matter. However, I find it interesting that lengths that he will go through to avoid presenting the simple documentation that some want for verification. It flies in the face of logic. I want the law and the Constitution. If there had been a hint of evidence that Bush was born in Mexico and spirited accross the Rio Grand to be registered in El Paso, I'd have been interested in seeing his documentation too. (and it would have explained a lot of his disinterest in dealing with illegal immigration)

:wtf: The single largest porkfest spending bill in American history going to vote without even a possibility of scrutiny after promises to have it up for review for 48 hours before the vote is minor?!? Many of those who will vote on it haven't had the opportunity to read it in it's current state. Eye of the beholder I guess.

If the records show that he sought funds from the college intended for foreign-born students, that data would have a direct bearing on whether or not he was qualified to be president.

When Bush's national guard service was questioned (correctly in my view) it was not his government that was being scrutinized, it was his personal life.

He also promised that any bill would be published on the White House website for five days before he signed it. That has not yet been the case.

If you are referring to his birth certificate, then he has already released that to the public. There are multiple sources for this, including copies of the certificate itself. Shrug.

I agree, his stimulus bill is not an appropriate solution to the financial problem. Neither are the tax cuts proposed by the Republicans. But that's another thread. Anyways, if that was what he said he would do, then it should have been done.

He also promised that any bill would be published on the White House website for five days before he signed it. That has not yet been the case.

He probably should have done that. Hasn't been addressed in a press conference?

I'm not so sure about that. I don't know how it works in the U.S., but I did some of my schooling on foreign loans.

I didn't think it was particularly relevant at the time. I think the regulations are natural born, 35+ years old and living in the U.S. for 15 years consecutively.

I don't think you mean that you claimed to be a citizen of a foreign country - i.e. passed yourself off as a Pakistani in order to qualify for a loan meant only for Pakastanis studying in Canada.

Yep, but we have yet to elect (for instance) a natural born, 35+ known pedophiliac even if he's lived in this country all of his life. What bothers me about all this is the fact that Obama doesn't make it all go away by producing the documents. That's pretty much what Bush did, although being able to prove that Rather was lying through his teeth didn't hurt, either.
