Magic's buddy says, we're too timid to discuss race[^]. He needs to get out more, there's no need for a discussion. I live in racially insensitive Indiana and anywhere I go I see (gasp) mixed race couples. My advice to Holder is to shut the fuck up, the problem is correcting itself by youth who typically cannot see race through the hormonal haze. And, haven't we just elected (dare I say it) a mixed race president? Any other predominately caucasian nations done that?

Mike - typical white guy. The USA does have universal healthcare, but you have to pay for it. D'oh. Thomas Mann - "Tolerance becomes a crime when applied to evil." The NYT - my leftist brochure. Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed pharmacist”. God doesn't believe in atheists, therefore they don't exist.

I'd have hoped that the majority of youth just plain wouldn't care. Although, I admit, there's something about dark skinned women.......

How much more racially tolerant could we possibly be? When white grandparents are proudly showing off their their little half african grand children in the deep south, thats a pretty good measure of change. How much more do we really need? I'd say there preparing some kind of new affirmative action program that requires AMericans to spend a certain part of their "free" time socializing with other races just be sure we are all properly indoctrinated into the new morality.

I have a very, very blond headed grandson who agrees with you. He gets partial credit for a gorgeous youngster fyi - the youngster, my greatgrandson Tyler, is 8 years old and a gifted natural athlete.

mine is a greatgrandson, in Dallas. Along the same lines - I'm a Roman Catholic and my parish is St. Monica's. Saint Monica was African. That fact may account for the significant number of Black families that are also members of the parish.

This sounds like another tin hat theory. However, I think in general, it's probably true that the generation that saw the 50s will have to die out before there's a persistent and probably largely no longer relevant memory of past racism. I don't but I think our congregation has a higher percentage of Blacks than I would consider typical. not suggesting a scientific measure, just a casual observation.

You might stamp out racism, but the notion that any of this nonsense is going to change anything basic to human nature is ludicrous. Human beings love to hate one another, and they will always find a reason. So, I find the entire racism issue to be a boring waste of time. I don't care if people hate other races any more than I do if they hate people who vote republican or drive SUVs or butter their bread on the wrong side. Its all the same damn thing.

On the other hand, so long as folks like CSS are still about, it's obvious that there are still enclaves of racism in society.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

Sure - calling a kid names because he's black and you already hate him is different to hating all black kids. I've always told my daughter that - if you were not fat, they'd call you something else, your weight is not the issue ( that being what she gets teased about ).

So long as no-one is burning any crosses, you're probably right.

Great film plus it takes racism and the PC thought police and gives all of them a kick up the arse. :-D

Fair enough. My daughter goes to a Catholic school now, so I'm interested in understanding them a little better.

That is great. I went to a Catholic school for the first 6 years, grades 1 - 6. When I started talking about becoming a priest, my mother decided I best go to a public school. I was at least 2 years ahead of the others in class and coasted for quite awhile. In "my time" they made you want to learn. I would imagine that they're still the same. They also teach a healthy respect for authority. Had a problem with that.

The things I want out of it are: 1 - a good education 2 - a respect for authority 3 - a positive self image I was really impressed by the girls we saw there, obviously the drug addicted sluts get hidden or expelled, but still, it was very different to a public school. I think it's going to be well worth the money. It's also all girls, which is probably a good thing. Of course, on the first day someone said to Hannah 'why would someone be so stupid as to wait to have sex', so I don't think they are all terribly religious. Hannah is, she said 'maybe religion'. The girl said 'what religion is so stupid', and Hannah said 'mine'. They are friends now, and I'm glad she was able to stand up for her values and have a positive outcome.
